There's several characters that look like spaces but aren't. In Windows XP you could use them in file and folder names, where they didn't register as whitespace so you could have a folder with an invisible name. Combine that with the ability to use animated gifs for wallpaper and name files "*.*" you could really make a mess of a person's desktop.
