173 yards on 39 attempts seems hard to do

Purdy seems like he's A Guy but maybe not The Guy. which is to say he could absolutely win a championship in the right environment but it's hard to imagine him being a QB you build a team around

Stroud is quite good but losing to the Panthers should definitely cost him any potential MVP votes

Williams makes throws i havent seen any prospect make in a while. he seems very good. but if he goes to the Bears with their new coach *spins wheel* Dirk Koetter, idk if he will fare well

Rosen had those hilarious games where his statline was like 5/19 for 50 yards. he strung a bunch of those together

the MVP is an extremely stupid award

people literally vote on who they think is "most valuable" to a team, despite that not being a real metric that you can possibly measure. it's clear the intent of the award from the beginning was to award it to the player who had the best season, but obviously that's morphed big time to this weird place it's at now to where it can only be given to quarterbacks

but man how stupid of a discussion is it that we can say Brock Purdy is really good...but what if he misses a game and his backup plays well. that means he's actually not that good? but what if his backup plays poorly, that means he's actually really good? because he wasn't initially as valuable as we thought because his backup is good? bizarre scenarios that have nothing to do with the play of the player in question.

ultimately the award just needs to be given to the player that stands out the most any given season, the one who elevates himself above the rest. i absolutely do not care if Brock Purdy is not technically the "most valuable" on his team....is he playing at a level beyond his peers? is Tyreek Hill doing the same? what about Micah Parsons? Trent Williams? these are the discussions we need to have

Is Brock Purdy playing at a level above his peers? No, obviously not. No one would reasonably argue he's a top 5 quarterback.

he's 1st in YPA, 1st in passer rating, 1st in touchdowns, 2nd in passing yards, 1st in 1st down %, 1st in 20+ yard passes, 1st in 40+ yard passes...

there are scared rules to QB Names and only a few exceptions get through. you need an "All-American" first name (which runs a lengthy gamut) and a fun but not too ridiculous of a last name...unless it's VERY ridiculous and then it actually helps (think Roethlisberger...who would have been a disaster if he went by Benjamin and not Ben)

Dan Marino? one of the best QB names ever. he would have absolutely flopped if he was Daniel Marino. Joseph Montana? Thomas Brady? dogshit!

but then you have the exceptions like Matthew Stafford. by all accounts he would have been fine with just Matt but he pushed the boundaries and stuck to the full name

Brock Purdy is a succinct and stout name and it flows perfectly. names like Jimmy Garoppolo and Teddy Bridgewater are almost arrogant in their attempts at being great QB names and thus they could never reach the elite status (unlike Joe Flacco, an absolute layup of a great QB name)

a great QB name has to be something you can wistfully imagine Pat Summerall slurring during a late 90s broadcast as a crowd roars its approval. JP Losman never stood a chance

'Dan Marino' is a great football name but ONLY for a Miami team, no way that name works in Green Bay

:hmmyes: in the same way that Bobby Hebert is the most quintessential Saints QB name but would be a nightmare anywhere else

lets kick the logic of this stupid award up another notch

Purdy is even more clearly the MVP now, just look how bad they lost when he didn't play well, and CMC/Shanahan couldn't bail the team out

haters with their system QB claims totally owned

Zach Wilson has been terrible all year on a team destined for the Super Bowl. if he played good, they'd be the #1 seed now. crown him
