This move was really awesome, but it's not going to work that well on any goalie that's awake. Goes to show that if you know the person you're shooting against you can really get in their head.

Kuzy is like 45% on the shootout and he does this all the time against good goalies. It's hard for goalies to match that slow tempo so they wind up deeper in their net than they mean to and all the stick handles means they can't set their feet.

Also neither here or there but it's a bit weird to me to see Caps fans so salty about Laviolette when he was obviously brought in to try to wring something out of the decaying corpse of that team, not to develop what mid young players the Caps might have.

Letting him go was the right thing to do but the Caps roster just wasn't/isn't that good anymore

What's the alternative? We're supposed to like the guy?

I'm not signing off on the logic I cited myself. But it is what the league office is thinking. The people running the NHL like the Tkachuks. Tom Wilson is their hero. But even they aren't dim enough to admit it publicly.

Tom Wilson is the future head of the DoPS.

A Caps win without an Ovi dinger is basically a loss I think.

YouTube TV has this feature where you can "get caught up on key plays" if you tune into a game late. I flipped on the Caps around the end of the second and it was seriously the most godawful highlight reel I've seen in a long time. Like they were including easily handled point shots because I guess there wasn't a ton else.

Karlsson, Letang, Graves, and Pettersson has time to get there. Those are not bad players. The overreacting seems ridiculous honestly. It should certainly be good enough to have the Pens be in the playoff mix like they are every year. People have been saying "this is the year they finally start to suck" for 5 years now and they always find a way to make noise in the second half.

PAS is going to post expansive complaints about depth forwards nobody knows or cares about whether they are winning or losing, so it's kind of moot IMO

I'll be a lot more sad if he's looked so bad this year because he's still in pain and the surgery didn't end up working for him, so I hope they're using the underlying injury as cover for coming to terms with just being too slow to play anymore.

It does sound like a not-retirement retirement. End of an era. Nicky B was my favorite Cap.

With Dowd out we might get to see both McMichael and Lapierre get looks at center. Not sure either one has a ceiling much higher than Top 9 tweener, but I guess we'll finally see.
