Once again, the season draws near. A time for joy and festivities, for family and friends, and especially for getting books in the mail. Whether you've been around for all of the previous Secret Santas or are new to TBB entirely, you are invited to join this Secret Santa and spread the joy of books this year.

The Rules
  1. This is open to anyone who's been on SA for at least six months and has posted before now. Anyone with a newer account is still welcome if someone eligible vouches for them.

  2. If you sign up, you must be ready to mail someone a book. If you have any doubt about this, consider joining next year instead.

  3. There must be an address for someone to mail you a book. It doesn't matter if it's your home address or a PO box or whatever, as long as a book can be sent there.

  4. Send your gift as soon as possible! This is a very busy time for the postal system, so be quick to avoid delays as the big day approaches.

  5. The deadline to sign up this year is November 25, a month before Christmas.

The Process
  1. Post in this thread to say that you're signing up and to let your Santa know what you'd like.

  2. Send an email to sabookbarnsecretsanta@gmail.com with your SA handle in the subject line, providing your mailing address and specifying whether you can mail your package within your country, to a nearby country, or worldwide. I will respond with a confirmation when I see it; if you don't get one, let me know that I've missed your message.

  3. The day after the deadline, I will email all participants the details of their matches.

  4. When you send your package, email me the tracking number.

  5. When you receive your Santa's package, post in the thread to let them know that it arrived, even if you wait to open it.

  6. When your match opens their present, respond in the thread.

Additional Information
  • At minimum, your package should contain a book in line with your match's Christmas wish. Whatever you send should be worth at least $20. Send one fancy new book or a few cheaper secondhand ones (in good condition!) or anything else you care to give – just send your match what they signed up for. Or splurge selflessly on a stranger!

  • If anyone wants to give extra presents (and not necessarily books) outside the Secret Santa system, PM me first. After my approval, you can post the offer in the thread for people to claim.

  • If you have a question about anything not covered in this post, don't hesitate to ask me here or through PM. If you run into any issues or complications, let me know in a PM, and I'll do whatever I can to help.

And, finally...

Merry Christmas! Happy reading!

I am in this year! Last year the scavenger hunt thing looked so cool, it's a shame we never found out the answer.

These days I'm into literature of all sorts. My favorite books of the past year have been Solenoid, Jerusalem, and As I Lay Dying. I'm especially interested Southern Gothic or other Southern literature. I'm originally from the mountains of Western North Carolina so I've especially found an affinity for things from that area.

Here's my Goodreads. I also have an "owned" shelf I think you can see. These are of course books I physically own already. Note that there's a lot of fantasy in the read section, but that's all from years and years ago.

I’m in.

I’m on a big sci/fi fantasy jag lately, especially old stuff. I prefer paperbacks / trade paperbacks, generally don’t love hardcovers for space reasons. I also really love older grimy detective fiction like Westlake’s Parker series and most of what you get in the hard case crime imprint.

I have a pretty up to date Librarything and StoryGraph if you want a sense of what I already own / have been reading this year.

No clue if you can view a StoryGraph profile if you’re not logged in, but it’s 7hm there.

Sci/Fi or fantasy please, especially anything recent fantasy that's worth reading since I tend to skew more SF than F and miss the good stuff.

Recent reads are on TheStoryGraph.

Happy to sign-up again after a good time last year!

I'm keen on metafiction (e.g., O'Brien's At Swim Two-Bird, Unamuno's Mist), old, trashy scifi novels, and gamebooks. But honestly I'll be happy with whatever. So, feel free to send along something that you really enjoy!

I will sign up as well.

I like weird literary fiction, weird horror, and weird weird. I'm not a huge fantasy dork but have read an absurd amount of scifi back in the day. Here is my goodreads to give you a flavor of my tastes. If it says "on shelf" I have it.

https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/61729436-billy-rubin

Now time to update that...

Also one thing: next year I plan to read my way through some of the most active threads, as in, an example of the works they are so enthusiastic about, just so I can better relate to everyone's passions in the forums. Feel free to send me examples of your favourite megathread works as well (like, I have not read any Wheel of Times and that is a super popular thead so maybe I should have half a clue what you all are on about?). I expect to get my fantasy dorkdom sharpened as a result.

I mainly stick to horror and/or sci fi but I'm willing to branch out. I pretty well primarily use my ereader but that's more difficult to gift for so I'm a-okay with normal books

Book Santa!

Although I won't reach my goal, thanks to Goodreads I've read more in the last 12 months than I have in ages, including almost catching up on all the books I've received in the previous editions of this thread.

Speaking of, this is my goodreads, everything on it I currently own (apart from the single book on the want to read list) and often have also read. As you can tell I like scifi and historical non-fiction/essays, but really will read nearly anything - I'm open to suggestions and have been pleasantly surprised by thoughtful goons taking me out of my comfort zone in the past!

Booko is a good site that lets you both find best prices, and find stores in Australia that are not directly funding Jeff Bezos.

Hey, it's Bookmas again! I'll throw my hat into the ring. I enjoy literary fiction, poetry, horror, and bizarre schlock, and non-fiction about unusual niche topics would also be fun.

ADDITIONAL FESTIVE BOOK-GIVING OFFER: I accidentally bought a second copy of Daniel P. okay, i'm in

i like: weird, obscure literature - no genre pls. as far as classics, if it's something the average person has heard of, i probably already read it or have it on my shelf. i love beautiful prose, i love atmosphere, i love vibe, i don't really care 'what it's about', all is about the prose for me.

my favorite book of all time is The Peregrine, my favorite author overall is Sebald. Thomas Bernhard and Yukio Mishima and Clarice Lispector are close behind. I have read very little books written this century, so if there is some weird obscure cool beautiful thing and it's also new, you can probably bet i haven't read it.

i also love poetry, and i have a lot less experience with poetry so i own/have read way, way less. my favorites are pessoa, rilke, shelley. though i prefer stuff that doesnt rhyme, if it's good it's good. same as with lit, i've read almost nothing written this century.

my goodreads shows what ive read, but not all the many unread books i own unfortunately: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/3372219?ref=nav_mybooks
