Saoshyant posted:The middle ground is WebP. It's about the size of JPEG, but allows animations because it's basically a video format converted into an image format, so it can do that too and much better than GIF, while working on every modern browser, including (I imagine) the different Awful Apps. for animated webp would you just convert an mp4 to webp or? trying to get the mammoth gif under the filesize to upload was a pain for nothing considering it subsequently got turned into a weird gifv file anyway that doesn't autoplay in the app

I guess I could also just make future sigs mp4s considering I've been making them in vegas anyway and turning them into a gif after the gif compression adds character, though

Saoshyant posted:I think you should export directly to WebP if possible. Exporting to MPEG 4 to then convert to WebP adds artifacting since it's lossy transcoding, so that step should be avoided. I guess a better question is what tools are recommended for making animated webp's then (especially transparent ones) I know I'm probably working stupidly inefficiently: I've been using vegas and exporting the frames as images to gimp to make a gif (and for the backgrounds, initially converting a gif to video to manipulate in vegas) I'm still prob going to continue making sigs as gifs for the janky style, but could always have use for webps elsewhere

I tried messing around with some ideas for gag and sloth the other day and got nothing I liked, so thanks for getting sloth, nesam tonight, I changed direction from my usual and made a sloppy animated doodle featuring butts I think could be made into something for you, GaG, but uh, I submit the rough rough preliminary before I keep going in case you don't like it or have any input on how you want it to progress? I was excited to finish :^x I was gonna do a background or something, but wanted to play with transparency using all the advice from above (I made this in firealpaca, which actually apparently exports apng, but it kept hosting as a still image, so I put the frames in gimp to make a webp) e: I had the frames in reverse in gimp... reuploaded RavenousScoot fucked around with this message at 05:48 on Jan 10, 2024
