As much as the lore shat the bed, I do like that the Aliens, and their motivation and possible culture, is just completely unknowable. Perhaps not entirely by design, but it skirts cosmic horror.

culture I agree but tbh I always saw their motivations as pretty clear, "we want this planet, and we could just murder everybody but it's more efficient to just turn them into more of us instead"

Yeah, I guess, but that always felt like method rather than motivation to me.

Years ago somebody had a ~45 second video on YouTube that was a montage of Alien Bounty Hunter scenes, set to some song that I don't quite remember but I think the lyrics began with "You can be...anything you want..." (or "want to be"?), the band reminded me of Styx. Anyone familiar with the song, or this video?

It wasn't this one, but similar idea:

Yeah, he’s introduced as the guy tasked with killing the Samantha clones (who are aliens, I guess) and identical scientist guys who are working together to escape alien stuff and live secretly on Earth. Then that gets forgotten and he’s just there to kill humans whenever certain alien stuff is at risk of being exposed. Other alien stuff is not a big deal, apparently.

When you're an alien shapeshifter, surprisingly your career choices get limited. No one wants a shapeshifting accountant or car mechanic.

No, its pretty much either spy, narc, assassin, or bounty hunter.

lady bagmo and I are gonna do something I've never done: actually try to watch every X-Files episode from Season 7 onward. There are MULTIPLE episodes I completely forgot about, and there's a few that I've actually kinda liked so far? the dude who could see through walls episode was decent, saw that last night

Apparently Surekill is that name, it's a decent episode. It was on OTA TV hence out of order for our rewatch. think we might start with Season 7 tonight

This would be a cool concept. Alien Bounty hunter is retired, just trying to live a quiet suburban life.. Has a boring job in procurement for a logistics company, a wife and 3 kids. They live in a 2 bedroom ranch in Iowa and his wife hates their boring life. so much that she's having an affair with another man. But that man is an under cover black ops agent who is trying to expose her husband for who he really is.

Or is this already a thing? Kinda sounds like True Lies.

We finished our watch-through recently and the drop-off in quality from S6 on coincides with them moving filming from Vancouver to LA (entirely at Duchovny's behest). It lost Vancouver's grey, damp and ominous atmosphere that really contributed to the tone of the show and suddenly everything was bright and sunbleached. Plus every episode they were having to come up with more and more convoluted reasons for Mulder & Scully to jet off to the west coast for yet another desert-based mystery.

Doggett was a pretty good character but they never really got a good handle on writing for Reyes (and the less said about what they did with her in final season the better). If they'd had the guts to properly focus on Doggett & Reyes' characters in S8 and 9 I think it would have benefitted the show, but it really suffered from the hunt for Mulder and then having Scully just sort of floating about in some of the later episodes and not really doing much other than reminding you of Team Mulder & Scully not being around anymore.

Whenever Mulder's not on screen, all the other characters should be asking "Where's Mulder?"

It was a really good idea to use the half of the season they had Duchovny for at the end instead of the beginning, and then to just have him as a supporting character just kind of farting around and helping the new agents. They just executed it poorly and then did another season after a conclusion that was decent enough for Mulder and Scully (they’re pretty much done with fighting aliens and happy to leave that to the new characters while they focus on raising their kid).

A few more episodes of Duchovny/Patrick teaming up and learning respect for one another would have really sold it when Mulder took the heat for blowing up an oil rig and got fired. Then a couple more with him just consulting and seeing the new kids do it on their own would have been great.

The show also suffers from taking the conspiracy stuff in that weird robot army guy direction. The black oil and everything from the Mulder era just drops out, so it’s weird having him back investigating Adam Baldwin. Maybe part of those final episodes could have been him realizing that all his expertise on the old conspiracy is basically useless and he’s behind the times post-resurrection.

Yeah he said he would quit if they didn't move closer because his then wife (Tea Leoni) who was shooting another show. That show was cancelled the same year X-Files moved production. Kinda of a selfish thing to do when you consider the crew that had been working on this show for 5 years. Also he cheated on her several times and now I am suddenly remembering that Californication was thing and wonder if I should re-watch.

Lucy Lawless's Super Soldier was supposed to be a recurring character in S9 but she ended up having a traumatic pregnancy and they had to write her out of the show almost immediately which is a bit of a shame as that could have been cool.

I think every single CW series filmed in Vancouver, at least the Arrowverse. I see lots of shows now shooting in Halifax and other parts of NS.
