i'm rereading musashi. i like it because it is an epic adventure starring an indefatigable samurai who is the best at fighting. it's also boring enough to make it good for reading before sleep

I am reading a book called Bad Nature or With Elvis in Mexico by Javier Marías. I like that it is very short and I will finish it in bed tonight.

TheMostFrench posted:I'm reading Bram Stoker's Dracula, and it's interesting to read a chapter about blood transfusion where the most suitable donor is a strong young man who loves his wife the most, and women are never considered. It's not a surprise or anything, the theme of men trying to care about and provide love to their partners in the face of unquestionable evil is a strong theme - the incredible power of bravery in the face of unimaginable evil is treated almost like science fiction. This was my wife's first english language novel that she finished and we wound up naming our daughter Mina.

I have a big gently caress off hardcover LeGuin book that I bought cuz the cover and her name (didn’t know her but cool name) The Real and Unreal, I think it’s called. I really like what I’ve read. Favorite story was about a town that physically moves around the map.

cumpantry posted:how about soseki I never read Soseki but probably will at some point. I wound up reading a lot of Dazai while living in Akita. Another translated book I really liked was Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata. But my favorite translated into English from Japanese book is probably The Cape and other stories from the Japanese Ghetto by Kenji Nakagami. I wish more of his stuff was available in English.
