There's no sanctity to the Hall of Fame, it's a goddamn joke as evidenced by the greatest TE of his generation not being a first ballot selection this year.

Let everyone in, gently caress it

Hester returned the football 610 times in his career which is about two seasons of RB work if they aren't receiving backs so I'd say the difference is much bigger

what's cool about yanda is that he couldve arguably been one of the best RTs of his generation anyway and he was only swung out there for a season or two out of desperation. he was insane. superbowl ring + on the oline that broke the single season team rushing record that had stood since the 80s should be more than enough for whatever casual voter is out there

OL in general doesn't get the greatest attention on the first ballot. Yanda, Jahri Evans, and Brandon Brooks were probably the best of this era but they'll prob get snubbed for a bit.

I get that. Its apples and oranges but Yanda dominated at guard in a way that Suggs never did at DE/OLB, but otoh you're right since Suggs gets the DROY, DPOY, 2 rings vs 'its a guard with a superbowl'. I think Suggs is more likely to get in earlier but Yanda feels way more deserving or like world class at his position.

Gates is a weird one cause I felt like there were at least two (non-hester!) dudes that couldve sat on the outside for a year or so while Gates got in. I think Willis was one of them? Probably one of the most insane linebackers I've ever seen, but basically only played for 5 years in a 7 year career. Not an argument to keep Willis out, probably more an argument against the weird limitations on how many can get into the HoF in a single year

Actually a team has five linemen and each one of them aspires to be a tight end so much they report as one a few times a game.
Therefore, like how returners are just bad receivers no o lineman can ever be eligible for the hall

Mystic Stylez

Suggs should be a slam dunk first-ballot, he's top 10 all time in sacks, first in TFLs, was very consistently among the best OLBs for a long time, has all the accolades (DROY, DPOY, all-pros, pro bowls, ringz), but as Ross has said, after Gates I guess you can't be sure of anything anymore

I went and dug up my old hester post. I went and got all of the pfr data on returns for each category. I use these as my counting stats and rank all of the players on the list with the highest person getting the most points and the lowest getting 1. I also do their per return stats and rank them the same way. I then sum up their points from each category. Brian Mitchell barely outpaces Hester in the counting stats as he's the frank gore of returns. He is not even top 10 for per return stats.

Per Return Stats:
pre:
Player per return rank
Devin Hester	494
Jamal Agnew	470.5
Jakeem Grant	462
Leodis McKelvin	453
Billy Johnson	451
Josh Cribbs	439.5
Dante Hall	436
Deion Sanders+	420
Tamarick Vanover 418
Jacoby Jones	416
Counting Stats:
pre:
Player counting stats rank
Brian Mitchell	792
Devin Hester	773
Allen Rossum	736.5
Darren Sproles	729
Eric Metcalf	729
Dante Hall	728
Mel Gray	715
Ted Ginn Jr.	701.5
Josh Cribbs	700.5
Dave Meggett	689.5
Both counting and per stat rank:
pre:
Player Overall Total
Devin Hester	1267
Dante Hall	1164
Brian Mitchell	1151
Josh Cribbs	1140
Mel Gray	1115.5
Darren Sproles	1091
Jacoby Jones	1081.5
Tamarick Vanover 1057
Allen Rossum	1048.5
Eric Metcalf	1039
Devin Hester owns and the numbers prove it. Daltos is just salty about the kick six.

ur made up stat shows hester neck and neck with a bunch of contemporaries, just cause he ends up at the top of a list doesnt mean he was some fantastic player who was insanely better than his peers. the degree of seperation here matters a lot, and he has almost none even in a stat fabricated to make him look good

Ghost Dog
Aug 17, 2016

sproles was a good running back for a bunch of years, much better as a skill player than hester ever was. since hes apparently 86% as good as The Best Returner Ever!!!! and an actual positive contributor on offense he also is a slam dunk hall of famer. same argument for jacoby jones too lol

DeSean Jackson made the cowboys look silly a bunch, and likewise draws my ire. He also fumbled at the 1 yard line more than once celebrating too early which is hilarious.
