When that episode aired, I posted around here because I was perplexed how good that was.
In turn someone linked me to this video.

I've since seen most of that guys channel, so thanks random goon who did that.

Thanks for the vid. Super Eyepatch Wolf had a hilarious cameo in this guy (FD Signifier) I watch regularly a couple of weeks ago that had me rolling. I’m actually going to give this season a go now.

I will quite happily take that over digital de-aging.

Same plus some peeps age really badly and stress so it didn’t take me out too much. Overall I liked the show though the writing was a bit dodgy at times; especially, anytime it focused on the “kids” who were aged 20-30. I remember one time they were sneaking into a high security quarantined area that they already talked about that had patrols and just started singing a silly song at the top of their lungs. That was just the most egregious but overall they acted like how maybe I would think someone would act at 13-16. Don’t get it twisted - I still do dumb poo poo even pushing 40 but I remember being 13-16 and occasionally I did super dumb things. I don’t think quite as bad as the 20 to 30 somethings in Monarch, or quite as often, but I did do them. But the writing always seemed extra CW when they were the sole focus. The older character bits were decent and using Kurt Russell’s son to de age him was a neat trick. The bearded goon Monarch agent really grew on me and one of the best laughs the whole show gave me was when he joined the kids and were pretending to be anime fans and he pulled out some knowledge. This latest episode he again pulled out a quick weeb reference that cracked me up. Decent fun at times although would rate it below most of the other Apple TV stuff aside from Foundation Season 1 and Invasion. Around the level of “See” and I watched all of that. Expected more from Matt Fraction tho.

Edit: I liked Foundation alright mainly because the highs were really good, but the lows were so low I never even finished the last ep of season one when it was spoiled for me. Mainly the Huntress was the deal breaker. I would watch an entire show of the fall of the Galactic Empire and Lee Pace chewing scenery. Kinda wish they had just skipped every part even remotely involving the book or just mentioned it in passing as some weird scientists doing mysterious experiments on the fringe.

I thought the first ted movie was ok but it kind of felt like to the extent it was good, it was because Seth MacFarlane accidentally came up with a concept that was too good for him to completely ruin with the actual writing despite his best efforts. I don't think I want to watch any more of the ted cinematic universe though.

The Flash Gordon bits from the first movie made me cackle like a hyena and the second movie had Patrick Warburton and Michael Dorn mocking nerds dressed as the Tick and Worf, a giant fight at the nerdcon and calling Amanda Seyfreid Gollum (which I will never unsee). Neither movie was brilliant but I never thought they were THAT bad. Good to chill on the couch with in between other movies like Harold and Kumar, How High or Soul Plane. Definitely benefited from writers and Walberg elevating it.,

There are some truly wretched comedies out there tho. One older guy I work with recommended Porky’s and holy poo poo that movie is racist. Lasted about 10 minutes because… yeah.

Death To Smoochy still holds up.

Most of the complaints I heard about Bebop were that it was amateurish. Nobody seemed to mind that it was different from everything I read

Yeah that is a good word for it. Pretty much looked like some fan made film that was somehow made by someone who wasn’t actually a fan. I’m fairly sure the producer just asked for a 1 page summary from a friend and saw dollar signs. Felt sorry for all the actors, especially Ed. They got so much hate but nobody could have made that show good. There were a couple of chuckle worthy moments but yeah… overall just kind of there.

Good news is One Piece got it right. They obviously know the old show and go out of the way to keep the same vibe. No idea if this means Avatar will be good but One Piece makes me hopeful. I’m kinda with that one goon tho: I wish they’d just try new intellectual properties. I know, I know - money, risk and blah blah blah but Arcane was shockingly good. Blue eyed samurai was new to me and really good. I actually liked old flops like Jupiter Ascending, Mortal Engines and Valerian just because it was something different than remakes and prequels. I guess I just proved their point but still…

Noooooooooooo! Please don’t take Richard Ayoade from me too. Seriously. I miss the old days of Big Fat Quiz Show and thinking Noel and Russell were just cheeky ragamuffins taking the piss out of the ruling establishment. Fairly obvious about Brand in retrospect but still… not Noel.

I'm rewatching the 2000 Dune Syfy miniseries in my "rewatch everything Dune before Part 2" marathon. I had recently imported region free blu-rays from Germany to upgrade my DVDs. It is actually scanned in HD, but all of the SFX scenes are upscaled (similar to Babylon 5). They also mostly used purely CG for effects (similar again to Babylon 5).

Wow. Another fan. I still have the dvds I bought in high school in 2004 and rewatch them now and then. Really good show for the exact reasons you mentioned. Well done show that nobody remembers but maybe you and I. The cast was fairly strong I thought though some of it will change with it’s sequel: Children of Dune. I liked Children of Dune although it is far from perfect. One big thing was mixing the books Messiah and Children of Dune. Despite some flaws I thought the execution was decent. The guy playing Mau’Dib was a bit old but excellent; especially in his role during Children of Dune. Seek it out if you can find it. Alia’s end still makes me sad and I found there was a small beautifully touching moment that was an excellent choice on the behalf of the actress per the behind the scenes. I really love all the versions of Dune out there in all their imperfect glory.

Going to back up the Primal recommendation. Absolutely amazing show that was metal as hell. Quick watch that is more than worth it. If you can find Final Space watch that too as it was almost a spiritual sibling to Farscape. It was Zazlaved so good luck.

One other obscure recommendation that isn’t a cartoon: Abandoned. It was a one season Canadian show on Crave/Vice exploring the abandoned places circa 2016. Famous skater Rick McCrank takes you on a beautiful journey with some cool music and people. It’s less ruin porn and more of an exploration of forgotten places and the people that still live there and love it. Yes, Detroit and Route 66 are in the mix. Give it a go.

Add me to the Dune/Children of Dune enjoyers, though I don’t remember the original as well as I do Children. I think the latter was the first time I saw James McAvoy in anything.

I do miss that era of Syfy annual Special Miniseries Event. The Lost Room gets a lot of love here but I have a big soft spot for Tin Man, goofy as it is. Taken also (the alien one, not the Liam Neeson one). I remember the Peter Pan one being decent too, but really don’t remember it. Was Childhood’s End their last miniseries?

Man I had no idea this many people even remembered the show, let alone loved it. Cool as hell.

Anyway, Dune miniseries was great, and Ian McNeice as Baron Harkonnen is forever and always the definitive interpretation of the character for me

Big same. Lynch’s version is trippy and has some cool visuals but Baron Harkonnnen was just gross and lacked anything that would make him seem truly dangerous player. I figured it was a deliberate choice but the Emperor Shaddam also felt a bit weak. Ian McNeice brought the goods. I’m still hoping the movie does the Emperor right as the Sardukar have been fantastic.

I think Dan "Teen Toe Defiler, Never Prosecuted" Schneider's last show was Victorious and TBH he really had no fucks at that point and probably thought he was untouchable considering the poo poo he put in there.

iCarly had the veneer of being neo-hippie and weird-internet stuff…

Dude was ALWAYS a creep. Way back in the day, the Amanda show had some oddly skeevy parts and that was still during his restrained phase. I remember being little and finding many of the Nick kids shows a bit gross. Like I didn’t understand WHY but it always hit different than Boy Meets World or even the more adult Malcolm in the Middle. Good news is it drove me more towards cartoons. Even those Nick variety and challenge shows felt gross. Everyone got slimed but it seemed to linger on girls getting slimed. Now I can look back and see pseudo money shots and be repulsed but back then it just felt uncomfortable even if I didn’t fully get it. Like I still remember some show where it made a big thing about some 12 year old girls legs in short shorts just moving around in slime and I was like “nope.” Bear in mind I’m jaded as hell and always have been. My Pops watched Robocop, Aliens and multiple Predator movies around me when I was 5. I borrowed my friends dad’s credit card to purchase an account here before I had pubes. If that poo poo made me cringe then I can only guess how others my age (including the actors) felt.

Basically kinda glad Nickelodeon went poof. Salt the earth. Sad that the docco made me look up Amanda Bynes now. No idea what went on, if anything, but hope she turns out ok. Why is it so hard for adults to just NOT hurt kids? I just don’t get it.
