This game, on the other hand, absolutely lives up to the hype. The story setup is great (with a sick setting background and short story in the manual to kick things off!), the writing is funny as hell, and the core gameplay loop (exploration -> resource gathering -> diplomacy -> combat) is awfully satisfying. I'm pretty bad at the combat, but I figure if I don't get better at it soon, I can take the coward's way out and let the computer do the fighting for me. Absolutely looking forward to playing more of this.

you can download it through the steam store so you don't have to fiddle with setting it up and it works fine under proton so you should be golden

buy a second ion cannon and put it in the slot directly behind the first one.

also sink as much RU into the thrusters as you can to outrun pretty much every random encounter in hyperspace.

The Pkunk didn't ally with you, they just give some starships and an item you'll need later on in the story.

I forgot to take a screenshot of talking to the probe-senders so it's imp honor

this was so cool, really glad I finally played it. real sci fi, funny, with solid gameplay. voice acting was very fun. only found three of the rainbow worlds so I don't know what the secret is there. game had a perfect balance of giving you hints of where to go next and how to find things while still giving room for exploration, though there were a few places (like the final sequence) where I couldn't figure out exactly where to go in a big area so it took some trial and error, which was especially a drag at that moment in the game. maybe some faction could have told me the exact system to look in there. lol at everything about the spathi and the syreen, orz were unsettling. also lol at the backstory on the crystal probes

no real secret when it comes to the rainbow worlds - if you get all five they point in a direction, sort of indicating the direction the Precursors may have traveled.. the sequel got fully funded in like two minutes so I imagine they'll address it, lol.
