Initial impressions were solid. It looks great and feels great. However, the story is so much more prevalent despite not being any better than 2 or 3, some of the levels are literally just "Here's half of a new level the rest is a level you already played", and the levels drag on for so long. The difficulty ramps is harshly in the final two worlds to where I don't think anything in 1-3 is harder than that and the 100% requirements just look like an exercise in torture.

That said, I do hope they do a similar sequel to Spyro eventually.

Finally went back and finished it, and after those Crash games the final two worlds and Bowser Castle stages were such a relaxing breeze. Just a very charming game.

First time beating this after putting it off for so long. Honestly kinda frustrating at times, and the platforming never felt quite right to me, but I love the aesthetic still.

Pikmin 4: All around excellent, might be my favorite of the Pikmin games. Oatchi kinda ends up breaking the difficulty of combat, but I think the addition of the Dandori challenges gives a nice way to add difficulty without just having a frustrating enemy encounter.

Donkey Kong Country 2: I liked it more than the first game, but I feel like it has the same problem as the first where it just starts over relying on gimmick levels over good platforming challenges.

idk I didn't really like it. Felt way too slippery and fighting by picking things up and throwing things didn't really click with me. There's also like five music tracks and the game's kinda ugly to look at.

I think I prefer 3 and World more since they have more straightforward platforming challenges, but this game was really charming still. Overall ranking of the NES/SNES 2D Mario games would be:

World > 3 > Yoshi's Island > 1 > 2

 I do think the levels towards the end with the like Bowser tanks are badass in 3, but the Special world is cool, and I like the Ghost Houses. I like World's Bowser fight more than 3's too.

I was going to do Sunshine next since that was the next Mario game I haven't beaten yet, but seemed like a bad idea with Persona 3 Reload launching tonight. So I turned on the Genesis Sonic. Sonic 1 is very rough and has some very annoying stages. Labyrinth Zone just plains sucks, and a lot of the level design seems to have not been made to take Sonic's speed into consideration. Sonic CD is way better. It's got the cool opening movie, levels are more designed to take advantage of Sonic's speed, and the music is so good.

Now for Persona 3 Reload to take like four months.
