Looks like a dude wrecked in the neighborhood, then threatened the other wrecked car with a gun. Then he went into a nearby building, which just so happened to be the supreme court building, held up a guard for the keys, then went in and hosed poo poo up for some reason. Even shot out the window at the cops! ... Then surrendered. A weird one.

I believe the answer is "it depends", like most dumb legal poo poo.

Donnie really, really liked to do things this way, by declaring what to do with government regulations, telling his appointees what to do, then they'd do it. Then it would be reversed by the courts due to Administrative Procedure Act violations. A lot like the Census's citizenship question that was pushed through, then killed by the courts because Donnie and his fuckers skipped steps.

So foot-dragging is a component, as is an unwillingness to use federal executive power. But, another component is doing things the "correct" way according to usual procedure so the rescheduling wouldn't get overturned. I tend to think it's more foot-dragging though!

There was nothing in the order that barred federal prosecutors from continuing to proactively provide discovery or file motions even though the deadlines were lifted.

Chutkan explicitly raised the possibility that she would "retain" deadlines if the appeals court rejects Trump's presidential immunity claim.

“If jurisdiction is returned to this court, it will — consistent with its duty to ensure both a speedy trial and fairness for all parties —consider at that time whether to retain or continue the dates of any still-future deadlines and proceedings, including the trial scheduled for March 4, 2024," Chutkan wrote.

All that said, even if your personal financial situation isn’t great, taking a step back and deciding that voting trump is the solution is some seriously deranged thinking. And that’s where tens of millions of americans stand today.

That's kind of the struggle with the Biden/Democratic argument that they haven't quite figured out how to make yet.

I still think this is all post-pandemic supply/demand effects (plus gouging). Having basically two years of 0% cost increases, then having one around 10-15% when demand shot way the gently caress up has really hosed with the national mood. Biden / Fed Reserve got things back to the usual 2% only recently, people are still hurting from that 10-15% year.

And outside of the other stuff mentioned (like one sickness away from bankruptcy), voters vote on vibes and probably won't advance to the "trump worse" part of the argument. Or they're tired of the argument that Trump would be worse and get angry at even the suggestion of the argument. Lots and lots of that going on with the Israeli poo poo now.

Stopping interstate traffic seems like a really bad way to try and shift public opinion on a topic. I can't think of a single time it was ever helpful in the US.

I think it only works for a topic that people already have majority-hardened opinions about and didn't know it was a thing going on. So it works for the German farm subsidy topic - vast majority might be in favor of it and didn't know it was going away. Those people are willing to ignore the assholeishness of the traffic blockade. Anything that doesn't have that large majority won't get that benefit of the doubt.

Example: Biden gave a speech today at Mother Emanuel AME in Charleston, SC, a historically black church. The pastor specifically said at the start to hold any commentaries and protests about anything else because it wasn't the time/place for them. Two white people interrupted Biden's speech yelling about the Israeli war. (Edit: looks like there was a third protestor, a black woman, so not just white protestors)

Bottom line from the hearing today is that Donnie is basically hosed, they're just debating the method. Appeals court could outright terminate the appeal as improperly granted, rule on narrow grounds, rule on wide grounds, make new policy, etc etc.

Granted, Donnie's lawyers are going for maximum delay, but there's merit to giving appellate justices excuses to rule for you, but they didn't even bother.

Sources told Rolling Stone that Trump had been rehearsing what he thought would be a blistering, dramatic conclusion to the case that will determine the fate of his business empire.

On Wednesday, the theatrical plan by Trump and his attorneys fell apart after Trump’s legal team, led by Chris Kise, refused to agree to conditions that would restrict him from going off-topic or attacking individuals involved in the trial.

Trump didn’t care.

Without waiting for Engoron’s permission, Trump began delivering a grievance-laden tirade from the defense table after asking once again if he could address the court, calling the trial a “political witch hunt,” and saying that “we should receive damages for what we went through.”

A: Why bother? Just more work and more appealable issues. Now the court of appeals will see him as very patient and lenient.

Also a moment that happened:
