from what I can put together on the tunnel thing it's deep internal faction politics within the group but it's very telling that this all started with the leaders of the two factions that have been engaged in mortal lawfare for decades over which one owns the building jointly deciding to fill the tunnels and ask the police to escort Team Tunnel out. The diggers are a third offshoot group from the more extreme of the previous two and have unlocked a flavor of monotheism so extreme that feuding hassidic rabbis put aside their differences to to say in unison "You guys are too fuckin weird man, you gotta go"
