so my dad is a huge steelers fan. he loves the steelers. i would talk to him about the steelers before but not in any detail since i quit watching football like ~10 years ago. now that i've gotten fully back into it with this lions team, i've been talking to him more and more about football bc it's something that we can talk about and not have it go into angry shouting or whatever. except that he won't shut up about how much he wants mike tomlin fired. every game he tells me about how this is the one where tomlin loses and finally gets canned. he begs and pleads for the steelers to lose so he can have a losing season and get fired. he tells me about how he wants tj watt to be traded to a better team so he can be rewarded with a super bowl that he will never get in pittsburgh under mike t

what do i do? how do i convince him that losing tomlin won't make your qb room any better? how do i get him to talk about literally anything else about the steelers except mike tomlin jesus christ

In my elementary school there were two girls the same year with the same names (when said aloud) but both first and last names were spelled differently from each other. Darcie Keene vs Darcy Kean. There parents didn't know each other/have any overlap.

There were no other Darcy/Darcie/D'Arcy 's in that class/the schools we all went to for 13 years, and I have never known any other Darcy/Darcie/D'Arcy in many many years of knowing people.

I wonder how much spit the average "I don't like this regular ingredient can you please alter the recipe for me" individual eats in a lifetime. How many of you make $200k or more?

To IT goons, how much do you make and how much does IT pay? Most of the IT folks I know have a wide range of incomes and work titles that seem almost completely unrelated to the scope and difficulty of their work responsibilities.

No IT people I know make $200k, unless they're heavily into network security.

IT meaning "the people who do hands-on setup of Hardware" as opposed to people in Engineering, which probably takes Senior Engineer II and above (or like Senior Product Director) to get close to that. Engineers do far less work than product managers.

I work at a company that is heavily reliant on tech but is not traditionally a "Tech" company aside from all the weird perks they offer us. We had daily Juicero deliveries for 2+ years!

Yeah, I think if you are the one point of solutions for a system the company is highly reliant on (smaller companies), there's a variety of ranges for an IT someone who maintains some weirder piece of infrastructure you can't just call a vendor to fix for you, but that caveat also applies to engineer positions and there's generally more opportunities in that field for "ownership". And then you're definitely going to be that 24/7 on-call person who *rarely* gets bothered, until the week you try to take a vacation in which case everything will break at once.

My wife and I make a decent amount of money, but we are in an odd place where we bought our house when markets were relatively down and have a low interest rate (2.6), but we have also outgrown our house. It does not make sense to buy a house where the monthly cost is 4x what our current place is just for 400 more sqft, but we also make much more money than is necessary to afford our current house so we are accruing a ton of money that is more than anything else would need, but still not enough for a nicer house (SF bay area prices go brrrrrrrrr). Just dragons sitting on a pile of gold at the moment.

People who like each other never "outgrow" their houses because they enjoy spending time in close proximity. Good luck!

I had an SI subscription from the early 80's.

Every Friday I was reading that poo poo from front to back cover. I had a entire 15x20x8' wall collage full of NBA dunk superstars that I'd cut out of SI with an exacto knife and placed into the right space of Jordan/Magic/Bird/Barkely/Robinson, with a few Dominque Wilkins and Larry Nances and other rando ballers from the mid 80's, and the remaining space was surfers and skater legends that had been captured in the magazine. I can't even remember why I took it down, but I did before I went to college and I haven't thought of SI since 1993.

When the bus hits the baby stroller he burst out laughing extremely loudly, then abruptly stopped with a 'wtf' kind of noise when it was revealed it was only full of cans. The entire theater looked at us like we were monsters. I still crack up thinking about that.

The dept of State seems to do a very good job of validating your bona fides, and it's a big LOL from me that a passport that will allow you to go to other countries isn't a sufficent & valid document at the DMV to establish your validity as a "REAL ID (tm) (R)" that you can't use to fly to other countries with. At least your Social Security Card you printed yourself is.
