Dennis Wilson has been long dead and James Taylor's music is horrible so I guess it all worked out

Was in the path of totality for the eclipse today. It was wild to see. I didn't try taking pictures of the eclipse itself but I got a cool one of the weird looking shadows.

Is there anyone famous from back then who wasnt: racist, anti-gay or didn't have sex with girls under the age of 18?

The Beach Boys trivia tidbit isn't that well known, but I think it's mentioned in Helter Skelter and then further corroborated in more recent Manson family documentary works. Also I'm sure James Taylor is a lovely guy, I just don't like that song.

No worries. Just seems like every famous person from "back then" was racist, wife beater (forgot that one), anti-gay or had sex with girls under the age of whatever the gently caress.

Been absolutely swamped and social battery continuously drained since I took a board position on a 120 athlete rowing crew. The amount of deferred maintenance on $250k of boats is insane. But, I am taking a break. And I bought an alcohol still.

I always wanted a still, but I know I’d end up losing passion for it as a project vs the passion for the idea.

I had looked into it before, but it was daunting (and expensive) buying all the bits and pieces. I didn't know there were ready-to-go kits. Last I knew, home stills were illegal, straight away. So I was surprised when I found them on Amazon, especially for a super cheap price. I told my wife "Amazon just doesn't even care anymore, they'll sell anything..." I got this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BW3FQZLT and $100 for an 8 gallon still seems crazy. Build quality seems reasonable, metal is nicely polished, latches seem secure. First vinegar run was dead clear with no contaminants washed out of the pipes, I'm kinda impressed. But then I looked and... Ohio is one of like 5 states where home stills are legal. Can't be living the illegal moonshine dream, but can live the legit moonshine dream.

Hey! It’s legal in Michigan! That’s pretty neat. I think (but don’t know) the federal laws are all set up around taxes and providing it for sale or distribution to others.

Pick and pull haul (with donor) I got a washer fluid reservoir and more wire pigtail than I need from a VW Touareg. There was an Audi Q7 that was pretty well picked over, but the VW had some good parts. The washer fluid bottle looks pretty close to what I need. If not, I'm only out $20. Victory lunch

Did you replace your belt at the same time? A slightly shorter belt but manipulated on can give way more overhang load on bearings than spec. Or, it could just be a lovely pump

I love replacing something that lasted 10 years, and turning it into a 6-12 month maintenance item, because the OEM part costs as much as the car, and everything else is a random grab-bag quality wise. Ignition coils/coilpacka are the main offender IME.

My alternator I paid like 150 for at O'Reilly in June 2017 (because I made it like 40 miles to their parking lot only to stall out as soon as the reverse lights came on getting into park, battery was totally drained) finally exploded a bearing in June 2023 so I'm pretty happy with that but I think I'm going to rebuild it myself with the best bearings I can find so I don't have to go through this again.

I'm super thrilled that the thousand dollars of Moog problem solvers I put into a customers truck came with half the joints not even threaded for zerks. There is no such thing as quality parts anymore.

Sometimes the OEM parts suck tho, pretty sure my Scion needs ball joints already and it has less than 60k miles on it, highly doubt I'm gonna spend a premium for OEM ball joints to replace them if that's the best they can do.
