I got reboosted in Nov (I'm at 4x power now :coolfish:) and I still got taken out by the latest variant this Christmas. Good luck, everyone :(

I'm 5 shots deep, and was about due for another, would have hunted it out this week. Pretty sure I got this off my niece, who I think bought it back from a New Years music festival. Oddly for a respitory thing, my lungs are fine, just a nose that wont stop running and the worst hot and cold flushes and muscle aches. Just woke up at 5am feeling actually kinda better, but that might be the last round of drugs still doing their job, we'll see.

That's pretty clever! I've never seen that before, but some luxury American cars back in the '70s had "cornering lights", which were white lights that illuminated to the side when the indicators were on, so you could see what you were turning into. Also a useful feature!
Of course, Tucker just used a center headlight that swiveled with the steering, and some new cars can do that with lighting arrays, I think?

Nissan put cornering lights on a bunch of cars in the 80's and 90's.

Up to the adaptive lights in the 00's.

Here in NZ you can legally do most repairs yourself, replacing like-for-like, connecting fixed wire appliances and the like, up to the point of basically altering or adding anything in the mains panel being off limits.

quote:

Install, extend, and alter sub-circuits (including sub-mains), provided that you:
*cannot connect your work to the electricity supply yourself
*must get the finished work tested and connected by a licensed electrical inspector who will verify the safety of the completed work before connecting it. It is advisable to have consulted the inspector prior to starting any installation, extension, or alterations.

So unless you have a tame electrician who's happy to sign off, if you have to pay them to come twice (before and after), you might as well pay them to just come once and do the whole thing, for a small one off job.

Oh and the real catch that I actually like is, you can only do any of this legally on a home you own AND live in. So your chucklefuck landlord or boss can't just yahoo it together, they legally have to engage a professional.

quote:

Employers, employees, landlords, tenants and school staff (including caretakers) cannot carry out electrical work in their workplace or any rented property unless they are registered electrical workers and hold current practising licences.

Here at least, it's that the stores are poo poo, say you go to Bunnings for 5 things, at least one of them you'll be greeted with an empty spot on the shelf where it should be, and one will be "we don't carry that/it doesn't exist". So off you go to the next location or hunt out the specialist shop.

Why not just go to the specialist shop first? Because they're often arseholes and charge through the roof because they usually don't deal with cash customers, expecting you to have a trade account. Also because you stupidly expect the massive big box store to have everything, no matter how many times you refuse to learn the lesson.

Edit: "At least you can get a Bunnings snag!" not here anymore, not very often anyway, but they all have a cafe now, and hell the closest one to me is actually pretty good for both coffee and pastries.

Interestingly, I looked up the plate. It's registered as a 2000, presumably when it was imported. Which means it only need a Warrant of Fitness (safety inspection) every 12 months instead of every 6. Bonus!

I'd put a rotary in it before I spend time dealing with the 4AGE tax, never mind dealing with the small detail that 90% of 4AGEs are FWD and need a bunch of jankery to fit into a RWD chassis.

edit: the 4AC made all of 80-something HP when new. This one is... far from new. 120HP from anything remotely modern and EFI would make it much more entertaining.
And yeah, really, I take your point. Spending money on the 4AC is a fool's errand.

In my part of the world, the answer is silvertop/blacktop/BEAMS swap, but a quick Google at how much importers are fleecing you guys for those, hahaha, yeah no. Local prices have gone up a bit as things get more thin on the ground, but certainly for a time you could find an entire running, driving but maybe not street legal donor for about what importers are trying to charge you for an engine and gearbox. Hell not long ago my sister upgraded her car and sold her BEAMS Altezza(IS200) for under US$3k and it was a complete, good condition (albeit automatic) car that was her road legal daily.

Buyout chat: Yeah even if they're paying now former employees out monthly, it's a fixed cost, probably applied to the balance sheet in a single year, and not an ongoing cost racking up further liabilities in terms of benefits and paid holiday time (I assume Canada is slightly better than the US with paid holiday time?).

Mileage is one of the most important factors because it absolutely matters to how much the vehicle will cost me and if I can even drive it as much as I want or if i have to decide to stay home or not.

My Nissan Fuga V8 (Infiniti M45) is listed on fueleconomy.gov as 18mpg combined, my lifetime average according to my Road Trip app is 15mpg, but with a lot of short trips I get as little as 12mpg. I'm unemployed and premium fuel here is currently US$7/gallon. You better believe I stay home a lot :(

I do get half price transit fares, I should start taking that more.

A few years ago, this happened: https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/312948/stop-go-trial-man-found-guilty-of-murdering-roadworker

quote:

A jury has found Quinton Winders guilty of murdering George Taiaroa, who was operating a stop-go sign in Waikato in 2013.

Mr Taiaroa, a 67-year-old father of four, was fatally shot on 19 March 2013 while at work at a one-lane bridge near Atiamuri, south of Tokoroa.

After deliberating for 17 hours, the jury of seven women and five men this afternoon returned the unanimous guilty verdict.

The Crown's case was that Winders, 45, had a minor run-in with Mr Taiaroa and returned to the roadworks a week later, shooting him in the head before fleeing in his blue Jeep Cherokee.

I'm surprised even that the main cause of cop death is violence as opposed to vehicle accident, I recall that coming up in the past as a big one, killing more than violence.

I wonder with logging, obviously getting crushed by a tree aint good, but if the fact that so much logging goes on in remote locations means incidents that might be survivable in the city aren't in logging because of the delay in getting medical care.

They've taken away the stalk, there are still buttons for it on the wheel, which isn't a new thing, Ferrari in particular, but not uncommon on other paddle shifted exotics too.
