That brings up something that annoys me about challenges thematically. It's never an epic duel between badasses, it's Sergeant Redshirt volunteering to be eaten by the dragon, and Dark Lord Insanius Badguyarax has no choice but to accept the honorable fight instead of just going "lol" and wasting the unit anyway.

I have been proxying my Evil Space Elves as Evil Regular Elves. They do end up playing well, even without official support. My main complaint is mostly that it is thematically silly to have to put away one of your weapons to use your Murderkill Extramurder Murderblade special rule.

I would go so far as to say if your FLGS crowd demands official Games Workshop minis, you should find a different FLGS. The game is niche enough. More players is more better.
