But yeah the short version seems to be the group of Jewish fundies, had a weird prophecy thing -involving a dead Rabbi who they think will come back to life at some point- that said they should build a tunnel there, it was hard to get official permission to do that, so a couple of younger ones just went a head and dug the tunnel there anyway, without informing you know the city or what not. After some amount of time the city found out and tried to fill it in, the young fundies tried to stop them. Think that's that's all the key bits to the story that are known at the moment?

The big sect: Chabad are extremely incorporated into Israeli society, at the (mostly secular) neighborhood I grew in the only kindergarten was run by them. I have vague memories of the messianic faction starting their sticker campaign in the late 90's but they never made a fuss in the secular world so everyone I know just shrugged and forgot about them.
