God Remnants scared the poo poo out of me as a kid, in a way that I didn't feel again till years later when I read Annihilation. So much so that I never finished it, so I'm looking forward to finishing it here.

poop chute posted:This is one of the parts that's stuck with me for twenty years. That hard swerve away from what you think is going to happen into "haha no this all sucks" sets the tone for basically everything else that happens. Yeah, WTR everybody. Strap the gently caress in.

Whew, that description of the Earth breaking apart has always stuck with me. Looking forward to the next few months rediscovering the wild poo poo ahead with y'all.

I'd say we're on about a 3-4 out of 10 on the weirdness scale for these books

Plot's not this series' strong suit, it's more of a horror image delivery system, at least for the first few books. Like Mo says, they're ants trying to figure out a picnic.

Welp. Any art fans in the audience wanna take a guess at what classic piece of art we'll be heading to next?

Coca Koala posted:I got behind in the thread and ended up binging a good chunk of chapters at once. I definitely would not have enjoyed these books as a kid. What was the contemporary reception of them like, I wonder? I remember reading a bunch of Animorphs and a few Everworld books, but I never heard of this series at all and I have to wonder if it’s because I aged out of the target demographic or if they were just very quietly received and never made a big splash. Okay we've seen a shipwright now so we can bump up another weirdness point, I reckon.
