The Genesis had a headphone jack with a volume slider right on the console which was nice for late night gaming while your parents were asleep. Games came in durable plastic cases instead of cheap cardboard boxes. It had some good games. But yeah, going up against the SNES is just laughable.

the snes Jurassic Park was better anyway. at least it tried to be some weird mix of overhead view and fps instead of being another platformer.

In nz it was called the mega drive amd no one had a snes. It wasn’t until I started going online and downloading roms that I realised that snes had all the godly games and the video game importing authorities had failed the entire country. It costs 300 dollars for a ps5 game now.

I grew up with the SNES and my only exposure to the Genesis was my friend who had a collection of mostly terrible looking and sounding American games. But I checked out the deeper library over the last few years and it's definitely got some good stuff on it. SNES undoubtedly wins overall but the Genesis had some great games: - Contra Hard Corps - Castlevania Bloodlines - Shinobi 3 - Devil Crash / Dragon's Fury - Thunder Force 4 - Streets of Rage 2 - Gunstar Heroes Devil Crash is the definition of a hidden gem.  As far as the music goes basically every non-Japanese game sounds terrible, with a few exceptions. Tim Follin's stuff was great. Hitoshi Sakimoto did a bunch of tracks on the system and they're fantastic. Technosoft had the best OSTs on the system.
