Bugs:
Light armor because mobility is life. Eruptor + Laser Rover for most engagements. Aim for medium size targets (warriors, hiveguards, brood commanders) since they're far less dodgy than the little shits, trust the AoE to splat nearby scavengers/hunters. Use the time between shots to constantly be moving. Laser Dog sweeps up the little stuff that gets close, but if it fixates on a bad target pull the Redeemer to clear your ankles. Impact or stun grenades, no preference. This handles everything smaller than a Charger or Bile Titan. Pull Quasar out for those. Last two stratagems I take EMS Mortar for lockdown/backup, and Eagle Clusters for constant horde clear.

Bots:
I'm still running light armor on bots since the instant kill rockets got fixed. Autocannon solves almost everything on its own. Little guys, medium guys, striders, hulks just as easily with a stun grenade, gunships, fabricators. It has *so much ammo*, and will be even better once the superior packing methodology module works. Only things it can't do is tower turrets and tanks from the front; Eagle Airstrikes for tanks/factory striders/fabricators facing inconvenient directions. I take the Orbital Laser for towers/heavy outposts/command bunkers, and EMS Mortar as my free pick. I barely ever use my Dominator primary - sometimes berserkers can get close enough for it to be handy, and if I need to corpse run to get my AC back it one-shots Devastator heads with a little stun grenade help. Grenade Pistol secondary because... why not?

Hot take carrying things like backpacks and heavy weapons should influence run speed just as much as armor so to be really mobile you gotta go EATs and all call ins

All fall before the EAT.

Laser cannon, by the way, is the best anti-air device in the game, and is also one of the best anti-tank weapons (against bots with vents). Gatting down a gunship in <3 seconds with a hitscan weapon never gets old.

They should do this, but with the current speeds as the heavy load.

Yeah this is where I’m at. New stratagems to mess around with will always be fun, but unless it’s a super shotgun for ground units its use seems too narrow… until we get more and heavier air units.

Its use case is being an ondemand cluster bomb that can wipe out entire patrols and can potentially kill heavies.

My hot take is that bot drops on maps with active gunship factories should have gunships escort the dropships.

loving stun grenades and heavy armor

Made it out with nearly 30 samples too :toot:

(Also they need to make us armor out of whatever the gently caress the Pelican is built from, but that'd be too expensive for disposable assets.)

Good news: Cold planets don't actually make it recharge any faster so it's just as good on non-ice worlds :kiddo: There's a built in 10sec delay before a second shot no matter how fast it cools down.

That’s encouraging. I saw a video a few weeks ago of a guy shooting it at shriekers and just assumed it was supposed to be anti-air.

Honestly it would be kind of neat if even on maps without factories that there's a random chance for one of the drop ships in a bot drop to get replaced by a couple gunships instead

I haven't liked exterminate missions from the beginning. They're not fun? The robots overcome your position so easily. I was irritated recently when someone just dropped a 380mm on top of us when it got nasty, but since then I've been doing it myself. Not right on top of us, but the maps are so small it's always risky. And it works quickly. I just bring along the three big barrages now (and a gatling) and drop them where there's lots of robots and not so many helldivers

I figure the missions are so miserable anyway, and I do get lots of kills quickly with the barrages. The only strategies people use are silly things like sitting on the top of the rocks, or running around the outside wall. I really just want the mission to be done quickly as they're not interesting

Someone complained today when I did call in a 380 a bit close - they said the map's a bit small for it. And they're right. It's kinda lousy for someone to be chucking barrages around. But also, the mission sucks! The robots all enter the base and get bunched up and the barrages rack up the kill counter

I'm not gonna stop bringing barrages to exterminates. But this mission type needs improvement

Airburst gets more performance out of one throw. It'll kill devastators with repeated hits and kill off extra bugs pouring out of a breach.

It's also got the easiest code in the game which is nice for getting damage out at the speed of thought.

I barraged them intentionally since 120 came off cooldown and left right when they did that :colbert:

I get hit with mortars and understand that if the shell wasn’t about to hit me then the 19 rockets would’ve.

Circular killzone with a little more uptime that can kill some targets the cluster airstrike can't. It has less teamkill possibility and a lot of the cluster can miss depending on how the enemies line up. Also the big boy eagle strike seems like it might be a bug/unintended.

And being paired with the Eagle is both good and bad. Using orbitals mean your 500kgs go rearm asap if that's what you want.

Kafouille
Nov 5, 2004

Think Fast !
The orbital airburst is easier to use, the cluster falls in a fairly tight line all at once, you have to get the distance of the throw just right, that makes it hard to use to intercept patrols moving towards you, while the airburst is circular and has multiple shots in a salvo, it's way more likely to hit targets on the move.

going full barrage is the least painful way of doing those missions. feels good to try and hold out and then just unleash hell when you get overrun. i dont even bother bringing support weapons or turrets

Half the time I fired the Airburst Rocket it immediately exploded in my face. My best guess is that it was proximity detecting walls off to the side (or possibly teammates, though some of the times I was definitely alone). But if that’s the case you can’t use it when you’re anywhere near cover or your team, which is a big downside. I also fired it directly into a heavy devastator’s backpack and it survived. So it’s a support weapon with a backpack and a stationary reload that’s really only good against large groups of weak enemies when you’re both far away and out in the open. I am now firmly on team Anti-Tank Mine.

Unfortunately that doesn’t matter when Penta is gonna be liberated before Choohe is even available. Once again the invisible supply lines make a major order more confusing than it needs to be.
