Finished my first dive post-training. It was solo. There were some not subtle graphical bugs in that mission, and I immediately burned through 4/5 lives while getting a handle on the aiming and the rate of fire of the rifle, then spent ten minutes sprinting headlong through a huge nest and barely coming out the other side with a successful extraction (losing the loot I had on life 5/5) by the tip of my fingers! Would play again.

Okay, so first off game rules. Second, the feel of Helldivers has successfully been translated from isometric to 3rd person, it plays the same...but different. It's very tightly tuned. In exchange for enemies that move somewhat slower than the first game they tend to bob and weave in cleaver ways and go for flanks rather than just surprising you from offscreen, they also react appropriately to being shot in various ways so kills feel dynamic and have a fair bit of unpredictability. The controls and movement are complex and don't hold your hand, and everything feels like that proper mix of arcade + manual input that the first game invented. Finally, the menu design is superb, snappy, and easy to read. I'm really impressed.

I can't connect to other games which sucks, as game is much harder to solo in than HD1

Yeah there's some crashes and some connection issues but overall I am pleased and look forward to playing more later.

I chose Ombudsman of Individual Merit. Got into a game with people, dude backed into my call in, and another dude ran in front of my firing machine gun. Spirit of the game is indeed intact.

So apparently there is a bug/crash if you change your armor after completing the tutorial, but before completing your first actual mission so don't do that.

Game rules. Calling in an eagle strafe on a big bunch of bugs feels even better than it did in the first one. Tried an automaton mission on challenging with me and a buddy and got absolutely hosed up. Really excited to unlock more stuff and see where it goes

Game is good, the default Warbond is full of stuff so not even feeling like I'm missing out from not buying the Super Citizen upgrade and if properly set up your squad can get up to some silly shenanigans. Went from dying on a bug in the tutorial to at least moderately competent on Easy... the 2nd of 9 difficulties. I expect starting Medium and up I'll need to team, and I've already heard people saying that Challenging (the 4th difficulty setting) is indeed challenging.

It is indeed very easy to get surrounded if you lose focus and dawdle a bit. There's just a poo poo ton happening at any given time.

Also the warbonds system is cool.

My copy arrived, installed, and I had just enough time to run through the tutorial before heading to work. I am not too proud to admit that the Battlefield Injury Simulator Unit got a laugh out of me I'm Gisbon on PSN for any goons I've not hoovered up yet. Edit: I think my ship is The Sword of Benevolence

Yeah I’d be up for some goon squadding up. I’ve only got one irl friend with it atm but that should be four soon hopefully. Though one is having a child soon so it’s gonna be awful for it when we bully him into neglecting the kid and spreading democracy instead.

Did they end up including offline play? I know they said it'd be in on their discord but I haven't seen it mentioned since

I guess quick play isn't working right now, which is a shame. Can't join anyones games

I tried to join a friend in an ongoing fight but I keep crashing when I am about to deploy in my pod. Happens several times in a row so I probably need to wait a bit until they fix it unless it's my computer that's doing it.

From the official Discord: Been reading steam reviews, there's a lot of "gameplay good" "battlepass bad" "this particular anti cheat is extremely bad". Aside from all that, there's a lot of negative reviews regarding crashing just from trying to access the escape menu, or doing something as simple as changing your character appearance. Also plenty of reviews mentioning the non-functional quickplay. It's possible that the game can be crunched into a semblance of stability by the weekend but I'm probably gonna wait on this for a while to see how it shakes out.

free hubcaps posted:Goddam space socialists planting an EMP in the armory menu Yeah, it's been a real fun time with some buddies when it doesn't crash. Also I've personally accidentally given several of my friends a bullet to the dome when they decided to run in front of my LMG when I'm spraying a big bug, oopsie.

Diephoon posted:From the official Discord: , technical issues need to be fixed and need more evidence that the weird post purchase monetization doesn’t suck overmuch. it’s weird that they didn’t do any wider public or invite based playtests before release that would have smoothed some of this out.

Anyone able to get in on the twitch stuff yet? When I try to link my account via gloryforsuperearth.com it says I don't have access to this drop yet. I'd like to link my accounts in prep for when it does start.

I’m usually a magnet for crashes but no issues so far. Also had my first tk when I was covering my friends retreat, the evac landed, and in his panic he ran right across my line of fire at the perfect moment for my first sidearm shot after switching to catch him perfectly in the side of the cranium. He did not make it back to the warm embrace of democratic freedom sadly

This is giving me flashbacks to the Magicka launch which was full of similar crashes and bugs. I think your game would crash if you put in a certain spell or something? I remember Arrowhead putting out patches almost daily for like a week straight.

definitely want to play this, but i think im gonna have to hold off a week or two or three or four or five until the pc stuff gets ironed out

Diephoon posted:From the official Discord: The changing stuff crash only happens if you try to swap stuff before the first mission. After that its worked fine (for me at least). Aside from that, playing alone seems good, i've had a couple of hairy moments where i've had to dive away from a horde as my gun runs out, swap to my pistol while on the floor, spam the gently caress out of whoevers closest to me before trying to get out of dodge. Controls and plays real well.

The change in draw distance with the switch to 3rd person is awesome. Games still hectic as ever but now I feel like you have way more ability to actually plan and use certain strategems.

Super Earth is so dedicated to freedom that they'll send in a new trooper on a solo mission just to finish extraction.

Two things: is there a way to join a game or open up your game other than quick play, and I got a "rotate the radar dish" stage and couldn't stop adjusting the radar.
