Andrew W.K. made a lot of money, didn't waste it, eventually stopped touring, deleted his social media and got married to Kat Dennings The staff of Pitchfork got fired

Also that album is good if you need songs that go PARTY PARTY PARTY PARTY PARTY PARTY PARTY PARTY that have good vibes, it's not like a loving all-time classic album that's gonna move you to your soul it will make you party, it did exactly what it said it was going to do if you read the tracklist edit: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/3864-blessed-black-wings/ eh I'd probably go a point higher and also Pike's vocal chord was blown and Albini kinda mixed the record around that, Des said Steve is really good at mixing drums too, which is impressive since Big Black didn't have drums; but at least they just digged Albini by wondering why he produced the album. flubber nuts posted:their legendary performance at gathering of the juggalos is also one of the best things ever uploaded to youtube. Saalkin posted:It delivers on its theme on the nose and is hella good for it. Andrew W. K's most recent release is pretty dope too. Seen him live a few times and it's always a blast. Andrew W.K., his band and his attitude toward life kick rear end and he is actually a skilled musician

Saalkin posted:Crack the Skye should be a 9.5 and blood mountain should be 9 but they're close otherwise. Although I dunno about remission. Barely listened to it. Remission is a very different band than the one that made Leviathan or Blood Mountain, even March of the Fire Ants and Crusher Destroyer kick rear end Crack the Skye is a really cohesive, beautiful album with a really nice keyboard track Blood Mountain is less cohesive but also has Sleeping Giant, Hunters of the Sky and Pendulous Skin they're both 9-9.5 for sure MrQwerty fucked around with this message at 20:14 on Jan 22, 2024 |

Southern Cassowary posted:these are mostly in my favorite genre of pitchfork review, which is "the metal album we gave around an 8 so people know it's good but we don't have to put best new music on it" still lolling at the text of the review of Blessed Black Wings boiling down to, "I just can't fathom why Albini produced this record" I agree with Des, Albini knew how the drums should sound on that album. Especially if the album is opening with a wild drum solo. MrQwerty fucked around with this message at 20:27 on Jan 22, 2024 |

Saalkin posted:Hell yeah. I used to listen to Crack the Skye and Om's Variations on a Theme to time out my break and the end of the shift at Sennheiser, Last Baron is such a good song. Also I really like that part where they both start singing in Capillarian Crest. Birchmen is a great song, though, and Diviniations is so kick rear end, and lol the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxelXPg961M

speaking of Om, https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/6115-variations-on-a-theme/ 7.8 - I'd give it an 8.5-9, On The Mountain at Dawn is such a killer song https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/9095-conference-of-the-birds/ 7.3 - eh I'd give it a 7.5-7.8, At Giza is really good but it also carries a lot of the album https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/10696-pilgrimage/ 7.4 - Solid 8, Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead has one of my all-time favorite drum fill intros https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13465-god-is-good/ 6.0 - at least an 8, review is extremely whiny https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16868-advaitic-songs/ 5.2 - lol see above

Lister posted:I would listen to their high rated stuff and it would suck, so I didn't bother reading anything from them after that. from that 5.2 review of Advaitic Songs: Mike Powell posted:The paradox about them is this: With two people, Om sounded expansive; with more, they sound comparatively weak. The music is unmistakably theirs, but the intensity of it feels lost in the arrangements. Listening to it, I worry that at any point I may be visited by southeast Asian violins. Diversity, it turns out, can be a diluting agent. this is what they are whining about : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKqoNrZ00Bg MrQwerty fucked around with this message at 21:40 on Jan 22, 2024 |

metal is way better than anime, also I was the roadie/drum tech for an occasionally costumed stoner metal band based on the Simon Bisley Horned God story from 2000AD's Sláine for seven years They commissioned Bisley to do their album art, he asked for a copy of the WIP, listened to it, told them it was kickass and then painted a totally-not-Sláine painting
