Why the gently caress does a booth review cause a runoff

He was down in bounds under 2 minutes, so the clock should have been running. If it was ruled the right way, it would have taken the lions at least that much time to get ready

Refs being bad at their jobs shouldn't cause a runoff

Then their are the cases where a play happens, a booth review upholds it, and then a runoff still happens

Probably because in those cases the original play/ruling has the clock running

Yeah but which one is which here?

Texans were the ones that fell behind 10-3 and came back to tie it, so I guess the Lions are all good to go.

2nd and 1 to go, and you do that twice?

Didn't matter, the coverage team had already touched it. Nothing bad can happen to the receiving team from that point on.

What if the lions pick it up, with control, and then fumble?

The punting team touching the punt first is a penalty with no penalty attached. Once that happens, the receiving team can always elect to accept the penalty if that’s better for them than what happened on the play.

OK, I know it was a long shot, but the bucs could have called a to and forced them to do something

Yes but it didn't matter. They could stop the clock, but detroit could easily kick a FG and go up by 11. There's no way for the buccs to score twice in under 20 seconds.

Make them make the fg though. If they miss, you'd have like 30 seconds to go downfield.

there was but i feel like it'd be pointless and if anyone got injured on the subsequent drive, it'd draw humongous scrutiny

For trying to win a playoff game? I doubt it. They could have had 20-30 seconds on the clock if the Lions missed an FG, enough time for a couple sideline throws and a hail mary.
