Yeah I eventually figured out neutral in Tekken 7 (both players turn into vibrating hummingbirds across from each other), and moved on to MK11 which from what I hear was extremely heavy on the neutral (both players walk directly into each other and just keep walking). I got to rank 30 with Feng so I'll be interested to see how having any idea what I'm doing translates over. From what I hear Tekken 8 is going to reward being way more aggressive. My biggest problem now is I don't punish things properly unless they're a popular character. I don't got no time to lab things and look at spreadsheets so if I don't pick it up playing online it's not happening.

That's pretty cool, definitely something I'm going to give a shot on particularly annoying characters. Getting a feel for how it plays out in a match is always better than just raw countering a move in practice mode.

I’m a learn by doing kind of person when it comes to fighting games. SF6 is the first game I played with a training mode that actually made enough sense and was intuitive enough for me to lab specific things. This replay takeover is precisely what made me finally decide to pull the trigger on T8. The turnaround from aw gently caress what the gently caress to ooooooooooh riiiiiiiight is going to be so much faster, and even if I don’t ultimately get on with Tekken’s sort of style, I can at least decide I don’t like it based on observable data and feel, rather than losing motivation because of being saddled with the whole bullshit process of setup, before even getting to test responses. It’s good poo poo.

I don't know how hard it is to set up a Tekken 8 friends list yet, but I'm thinking it would be fun to do some regular tournaments. Having a regular crew makes fighting games so much better than fighting randos

I think I'm most excited for the replay system tbh. Tekken 7 is actually the game I placed highest in tournaments in, but it was such a chore working through strings that I'd get hit with (combined with the online being kinda a pain sometimes). Having the frame data + replay takeover + suggested punishes will make that process so much easier and more fun

I'm cautiously optimistic, I didn't like much of what I saw from the early reveals but the general adjustments and responses since have been looking good. And that replay function for sure. Don't have as much time and energy as I did when 7 came out and I haven't played much the past 2 years so I'll probably suck again but, eh.
