I was wondering about this and it's true that American and other "western" WW2 movies seem to be different. But what if a battle like Stalingrad had happened deep in the United States with nothing but devastation behind it? Just a thought.

This series was OK. Can't help but agree that Band of Brothers was the best of the bunch because the source material was a tight group of, well, brothers. I think that's it. For their next project they shouldn't try to find some other theatre of operation but another real band of brothers.
