Interstella 5555 i like daft punk and i like anime, so i liked this. somehow the first time ive seen it but its cool nice animation and ofc nice music biggest problem of the movie is the same thing as the album its based on: too long sucks rear end, and the entire climax of the movie is that drat song. this joke has been made a million times, but it really is Too loving Long best combos of cool visuals and sick music were aerodynamic, superheroes and something about us 3/5

Interstella 5555 The first time I saw this movie it was projected onto a wall at a party and was kinda just on in the background. I already thought it was great, but sitting down and watching it let me appreciate the effort that went into this a lot more. All the art is incredible of course, and the album rules, but i never realized they actually did put together a narrative for this beyond "really long music video". It's simple, but it's not nothing you know? lol Thanks for the pick, I really enjoyed revisiting this and being able to give it my full attention.

Parenthood pleasant, not amazing i actually liked the way this handled the multiple plot threads and never felt like it was lacking when it switched, the rick moranis plot was pretty thin tho. the dianne wiest plot was my favorite, its fun to see goofy young keanu while most of the humor was very natural, some of it felt kinda wacky and out of place, like gil washing his hands over and over while asking how his son got to be so nervous, might as well stick in a sitcom laugh track at that

Interstella 5555, the 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem this was cool, nice pick. It's an hour long anime music video for Daft Punk, what's not to like? everyone making this understood what it is when they set out to do it. It has robust, colorful visuals to pair with the music and that's all that it needed, really. the "plot" is easy to follow and it culminates in a big battle between good and evil ghosts in space. it's only an hour long so that it doesn't overstay its welcome. i get the complaints about recycling the animation in a lot of places but it didn't really bother me. i could make up something about the repetition contributes to its oneiric storytelling or w/e but the truth is that this movie is for getting stoned enough that you melt into the couch, grabbing some snacks and watching with headphones on. i honestly wish more bands would do something like this, something that cuts corners if it has to and just serves as a light companion piece to the music, something that doesn't have to be either traditional "music video" length or feature length. like, yeah, it could be an hour of WinAmp's visualization effects and it would still be cool to listen to Daft Punk, but this was for Discovery, which is fun.

Interstella 5555 This ruled. Happy to have an excuse to listen to Discovery in its entirety again, what an album. We need to get back to making rock operas about record execs ruining music (and lmao that the record company is literally called "Record Company"). Also I loved the sweetly optimistic idea of the entire Earth happily working together to send these aliens back to their home planet, that was so uncynical it actually surprised me lol. Really good pick 4/5 vhs tapes
