The New York Times view on calling balls and strikes is to make sure there is an equal number of them, not to present them accurately.

I worked for a Chinese owned oil company when Texas kept putting out laws to "protect American from hostile actors." They were blatantly racist and would bring into question if someone born in China that became a US citizen could own any property. It did lead to a fun joke of whether we could use the bathrooms at the office because they connect to critical infrastructure.

The TikTok ban is very much the same thing because they refuse to regulate real problems with social media and just go China=scary to the point of demanding that the Singaporean CEO was Chinese.

There's only one way to know that, and it's to directly observe the person doing it.

It's good to know this because police always enforce laws to the letter and not their own bizarre interpretations of it.

It is going to be impossible to even get an estimate of the time to get a new bridge up until they can inspect the damage to all the remaining parts that didn't fall down. There is a major difference between just having to replace the main span and having severe structural damage to all the supports leading up to where it was that need to be removed and have all new structures built.

Isn't this actually how many bridges are built? I wouldn't be surprised if failures were part of the reason.

A lot of the time you see 2 long bridges next to each other is because they wanted to expand and built the other was built years after the first. It would take a lot more material to build two parallel spans instead of 1 wider one in the first place.

I think Roe was giving them cover from the base. The base honestly thinks abortion is murder and wants it totally banned, but Republicans could pass some "late term" restriction that bans 1% of abortions and point to Roe. Now if they do that, the base sees that they banned 1% of murders and thinks they're uniparty RINOS.

Trump's questionnaire for job applicants asks whether "life has a right to legal protection from conception to natural death" so obviously they want to ban it.

People are saying this, but Republicans were getting 6 week bans passed in states prior to this. I guess you could argue they expected it would get overturned, but they continued with this push after Dobbs.

There isn't infinite time of resources so focusing on the 7% (some of who want us to be more involved or are just anti-Ukraine) will reduce the votes you get from the 93%.

Just make cheese curds the national food and guarantee a win in Wisconsin.

Main Paineframe posted:

If the voters don't know who Mayorkas is, that's a bad thing, because it means they're going to get all their information on who Mayorkas is from GOP campaign ads.

Why does that matter? Because polls consistently suggest that the border (specifically, Democrats being too soft on it and letting too many immigrants in) is one of the issues voters care most about in 2024, and the GOP has been putting quite a bit of effort to make Mayorkas the face of that. The big mistake this writer makes is assuming that vulnerable Dems are going to be hit because of their vote here - the GOP was going to use the Mayorkas stuff against vulnerable Dems no matter how it played out.

Running a full hearing and not removing him from office gives the exact same results, but with more sound bites to use.

I guess the Democrats could have caved and removed him from office and still gotten the exact same weak on the border commercials.

They also famously refuse to allow employees to sit, even on their breaks.
