Have you ever tried butter with bread? It's really good. Of course you need a butter knife to spread it onto the bread.

i wanted bread yesterday, so i went to the co-op, got a few pounds of bread flour. when i got home i found a nice recipe for a peasant bread, made that a few hours later. then i had a delicious grilled cheese with the freshly baked bread, with a bit of charcuterie and some fig jam :yum:

baguettes aren't so good for a grilled cheese though. i suppose a french batard would have done okay. plus it's fun making your own staff of life, nothing quite like a fresh bread

the hotel we were at in the french alps last week had fresh baguettes every morning. they were very good toasted with their homemade jams and for making pocket sandwiches for ski lift snacking

ive been keeping a sourdough starter alive for quite a while, really nice to have a fresh boule of it every two weeks or so, then make bread pudding if not eating enough before it gets stale

also homemade sourdough pizza crust

I used to be all about spreadable butter, but since I got a butter box (to keep it outside of the fridge), I'm never going back. Real salted butter is just so much nicer on toast etc.
