I think I'm a doctor, but that doesn't make me a doctor. This fancy avatar does.

tbf it may be more accurate to look at it that the other springfields lost for various legitimate reasons

I've read the reasons. Several Springfields didn't even enter the contest (IIRC, towns submitted videos to be voted on.)

In theory, the reason the VT Springfield won is because of a weird intersection of Vermonters having a lot of pride for the state as a whole, and also the state being, essentially, a single media market.

Oh, is one little town in the southern part of the state in a contest to win something nationally? You'd better believe all four local TV stations are going to cover that and tell everyone in the state where to go to vote.

There probably wasn't as much relative media coverage in, say, Chicago, to get them to vote on the "Springfield, IL" submission.

BUT, I prefer to go with my conspiracy theory:

Vermont Yankee Nuclear Plant (no longer in operation, but was in 2007) is less than an hour from Springfield, VT (and I think they even featured it in the video submission).
Quechee Gorge is less than 40 minutes.

It would've been a great opportunity to educate Chicagoans on what state they're in though.

But if they know, isn't there a chance they may just all leave?
