unironically tape
it lasts forever if you take care of it, and if you write to with with a universal format like tar you can read it back forever

a side project at work is pulling off data from some Data8 tapes circa mid 90s. they're just tars so you can read em in no issue. only problem is that some of them were written on big endian sparc boxes so you gotta convert the byte order

real question what data is on there that is valuable enough to do this

even cheap tape holds up pretty well. i've got games on cassettes from the mid 80s that work fine, despite spending most of the last 35 years in an uninsulated loft

The 80 mm round ones were sometimes used for singles but I'm talking about the business card ones

I like how these occasionally hosed up and broke cd players who couldn’t handle em lol

the cd singles I currently have are a few jpop ones from the label avex trax, which come in these like, long thin cardboard sleeves, which is nice for artwork. early CDs did something similar with their packaging iirc, altho a bunch bigger. it was more intentionally inconvenient as a sort of theft deterrent thing if my memory serves right

the other cd single I have atm came bundled with a game, Noël special edition for ps1. the weird shaped ones I used to have are prolly still in a basement on the other side of the country

Employee who knows physical media: We could just do a print on the disc..?

Manager who will not let their idea go no matter how costly or suboptimal: No. Definitely a special cutout disc.
