Probably not much of a contribution, and I’m sure I posted this (like 15 years ago, ugh), but this creeped me out a bit when I found it linked on someone’s…LiveJournal maybe? When I was in grad school the first time. Since Flash is dead, you can’t use the original website, but you can either download an app to click through yourself, or watch the YouTube walkthrough. It’s not super scary, I suppose, but it’s a kinda freaky experience with an interesting blend of bleak photography, art, and animation/sound. https://www.99rooms.com

There’s a particular jump scare moment, I can’t remember the room number for the life of me, but it was an odd figure coming out of a bathtub. I kept reminding myself that like the rest of the art it’s all just sorta chilling in this rusted out space that’s going back to nature and can’t hurt me nor has the inclination to. I mean, I intruded on it after all! It’s the first time I recognized how the Internet can be used to share an artistic experience and it’s a drat shame the site itself doesn’t work. There are some areas where you have to solve a simple puzzle or find an interactive element (all very easy/intuitive) and has I watched it video only I wouldn’t have the same impression of it.

Nexpo and Nick Crowly made their own analog horror series called Liminaland which uses AI art, which initially I was "why not pay artists to draw things for it?" but then when i saw the results, the weird creepyness of AI art actually worked in making the series more creepy. https://www.youtube.com/@LiminalLand I do like my analog horror to be about monsters and aliens, as i find that way more scary that "actually your brain is bad" kind of horror so stuff like Local 58, Gemini Home Entertainment and Greylock are extremely my poo poo. Oh a big one that hasn't been mentioned is Monument Mythos which presents an alternative earth where US monuments contain monsters that eat people, also weird rear end poo poo going down like James Dean becoming president and then Nixon becoming God https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=monument+mythos It's not super spooky but its really well done. I also really like how the first world ends. Why did they think that was a good idea? A smaller channel that doesn't have that much content is The Blue Channel, but its got some creepy stuff going on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td2x8s9GZlo I feel a bit kyne after working retail every day. Was Eventide Media Center mentioned? I really liked their stuff, but the creator decided to take everything down after he published a video that involved a school shooting and then one happened right way. He got poo poo on about it and decided to just stop the project.

Incredible encapsulation of the vibe that comes with the dread of mass ritual child abuse. The way that it says to pierce the child with the needle and wait, and then the video just pauses for so long... it's too real.

Found footage isn't everyone's cup of tea but this channel really nails the basics of what makes the genre work. Without giving too much away, it's about a group of friends in Florida who are getting together when strange stuff happens. What's unique about their presentation is it's story is told with a series of under-60 second clips that range from "yeah, they are goofing off at the grocery store" to "...holy poo poo, what was that?". It's an interesting format that works well. Just make sure to watch their playlist because for some reason the video page doesn't have the videos in chronological order. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjdkJqTQu2Ya3RyZHPvdtMg

I watched the first episode of severance and had mixed thoughts. The good: interesting concept for a story, Patricia Arquette is always great, I like Adam Scott although watching him fake cry at the beginning gave me a bad case of the giggles. The bad: Britt Lower: sweet fuckin poo poo she's overacting in every scene to a ridiculous degree. Hopefully it gets toned down. Also his best friend that shows up near the end is awful too.

Severance goes from "This is okay" at the beginning to "holy poo poo this is one of the best shows in years" by the end. By the end I mean of the first season, as a second one will air at some point but hasn't yet. It's not really like, scary though, except for maybe a scene here and there. Not really the vibe this thread is going for.

PenguinKnight posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td2x8s9GZlo Lol literally, posted that above your post. A good analog horror not mentioned yet is Midwest Angelica https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_G3E1G2pVA It kind of reminds me a lot of Evangelion, but if it was spooky. A smaller and overlooked one is the Tangi Virus.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDoi9vT5OvM&list=PLr2mXSGMbuxe2Cxn3xpMs79-iMJ8VjbuV The concept of something putting something in the water supply is pretty horrifying, especially since we know a lot of places, protecting the quality of the local water supply is a low priority. Vita Carnis got a lot of attention but I noticed not a lot of people know about it, which is odd https://youtu.be/nIuJVtXYEHU?si=up-nzWUHrrekt-2f I also noticed a lot of Analog Horror has corporations involved with the spookiness, so they all kind of have a vague anti-capitalist message, showing that companies will happily betray humanity to make a buck. An a completely different type of horror, how many are afraid of fly? Disaster Breakdown does detailed examinations of how airline crashes happen, I have to admit, knowing the bonkers stuff that goes into causing a modern plane to crash, I'm a bit less worried about flying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUfmg_iXZWc This one was particularly horrifying.

The loss of the interactive part is pretty sad, but I’m glad the experience is semi-preserved through the walkthrough video; the creators really made a pretty amazing piece of multimodal internet art. Also, I remember about jumping out of my skin in the room featuring a doorway where suddenly a (in retrospect, kinda cute) little Fox-like creature skitters past. It would be awesome if the guys would update it, but woof, the original project already took so much time, effort, and dedication.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ngiq4T1GApM I watched this video and it sucks rear end. This feels like it's just a checklist for topics like Reddit, Disney, old internet, edgy content, etc to reap in those sweet keyword dollars. 36 minutes of padding to summarize "Disney bought an expired domain". Makes me just feel like he ran out of actually interesting things to talk about. Nexpo kind of stinks in general, but he did have a few hits like old/abandoned game worlds which was interesting. Recommend these videos if you want more of that though they're more in-reality and liminal rather than horror. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNDfvNqPILg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzoJe72_0nA

Hazo posted:I skimmed the thread and to my surprise I don’t think it’s been posted, but I immediately thought of that really old found-footage film of some hillbillies having a party or something and it’s interrupted by a UFO landing. I remember it kicked off a huge debate over whether it was real or not, and it had two different endings somehow? Anybody remember this? I saw this on a local channel in the late-90s. It was the re-cut version, so it had the out-of-context slippers of interviews with Stanton Friedman et al, to make it seem like they were talking about the film, which confused me to no end. It was only a few years ago that I found out those interspersed interviews happened afterward to give it "credibility" or whatever. Last I saw (again, a few years ago), Dean Alioto was trying to reclaim his work and his name, and was pissed/vindicated that people remembered that movie for all of the wrong reasons.
