It's a new thread and I really should do an effort post on airbrushing, but that would take... effort.

Your goal when Airbrushing is for the paint to dry the moment it hits the painting surface. You do this by constantly balancing between the viscosity of your paint, the pressure of your air and the distance from the painting surface, when one changes the others have to change as well to compensate.

You want to be very thin with very low pressure to get close.

The closer you get to your surface, the lower your pressure needs to be to avoid splattering, and the lower your pressure the thinner your paint needs to be to get through the brush, but that also leads to splattering, so you need to experiment to find the right balance. Using thinner (reduces drying time) and flow improver (increases drying time) can help dial it in, but it's going to take experimentation to find the right combination.

What I recommend is to get some glossy white index cards and then practice spraying lines on them of different widths;., experiment with differen't pressure settings, different distances from the painting surface and different viscosities of paint until you get a real good feel for where you need to be and then apply that technique to your models.

Unfortunately there is no "use X PSI at Y distance with X Paint" settings for this, it's all about learning to use your specific unique brush, paint and application combo.

My takeaway is that every kind of priming is the worst kind of priming :negative:

I actually have used my airbrush a couple of times now for priming batches and it seems to work but I can't tell when I'm done and there's enough primer on the model.

Don't mind me, I whine a lot because I don't enjoy painting, I only do it to cover up the Shameful Grey in the hopes of one day getting my stuff on the table to actually play a game.

It is not well painted, but it is fully painted. I need to look at some paint schemes instead of just grabbing random colors. That also isn't its actual base, I've got some fancy ones printing and I'll see which one looks best for it.

Thank you for the feedback. It's a contrast paint (Blood Angels red) and I think the issue is that I hosed up the priming again, using the last of my spray can primer. I did another coat on the shin armor and it did very little to cover up the streaks so I didn't bother on the carapace.

Primed the base with my airbrush, which I should have done for the model itself, paint applies so much better than over rattlecan primer :v:

There's probably a better mud tone than this but it's good enough.

Also I'm disproportionately proud of how the little 90-degree notches I edited into the base turned out, they define the front/side/rear arcs of the model.

I'm going to make an order from Pro Acryl because their titanium white is so well regarded and nobody stocks it locally. Are there any other colors from their line that are must-haves?

Can confirm it’s good paint. Just don’t thin it much - it comes pretty good from the bottle as Doobie said

:woop: I hate thinning so this is a big plus. I know it's easy but it fills me with the feeling that I'm not going to be able to make it consistent batch to batch.

Gorilla glue really does not seem to stick to 3d printed resin. I like getting the packets of 6 tiny tubes of "Future Glue" gel, it seems to work better and the tiny tubes are a good size for assembling one or two things at a time.

:toot:

The past week I've done more painting and less bitching about painting, and I've accomplished a fair bit, maybe a third of the total models in this photo, compared to the other two-thirds taking me months. All the differences in color are because of different priming techniques, I've been using Imperial Fist contrast paint for all the actual painting but I've used a bunch of different primers. Infantry are still the most annoying part, and I have a suspicion I need a lot of infantry to make a valid army, but I'm making progress.

I need to make an army list so I can know what else I need to actually paint.

Cross-post from the specialist games thread, here's my first fully-painted model for Legio Catholicus, "The Powerwolves," Beast of Gevaudan.

I still don't enjoy painting, and I look at some of the stuff that people in this thread produce and wonder why I even bother, but having a painted model is kind of satisfying even if the paintwork is trash, and maybe I'll get it on the table some day :unsmith:

I think you're being a bit too hard on yourself. This is looking good, if you go back and touch up a couple bits of misplaced paint around the trim it is going to be even better. Remember that it won't be viewed up close 95% of the time, your bold scheme is going to look really nice on the table.

Something to remember is that a good number of the people posting here paint at a very high level, and have probably been at it for decades potentially. Keep at it, and experiment with techniques and you will improve too.

Thank you. I'm going to keep at it, I have all kinds of tiny armies I want to build. And it's a learning process for sure.
