I know some people, who carefully buy only the paints they need and they're all cowards.
Biggest boxsets for life.

Well, at least you're set for paints for forever. I'm curious about your thoughts, people seem generally positive about the range, but it's hard to tell how much of that is hype and how much is actual quality.

That would actually require me to paint something :haw:

I kid. I've continued painting my Bretonnian knights. I've used Daemonic Yellow only so far.
Painting on top of white primer and yellow speedpaint worked fine (duh).
I also had painted the horse reins with dark brown speedpaint and one coat of D.Yellow on top of that on the mini shields look great.

Paint comes thick out of bottle, with no separation like in previous gen.
It is so thick, I need to work on my paint thinning. I Never bothered to thin with previous AP paints.

Finished my first model with them:

I'm mostly satisfied with the paints.
Whites ended up bit chalky, but that is mostly me not thinning down them enough.
I was painting it over red and was bit too impatient...
I'm used to mixing my own highlights, so using triads feel bit like cheating.

Horse, metals and browns are speedpaint, rest AP-fanatics.
The other horse is just speed-paint (that is going to be overpainted) + the 2 thinned coats of Daemonic Yellow on the shields.

It is a pretty cool looking posse.

NMM has been around long enough that even when you see it on gaming minis, your brain just goes 'oh yeah, metal, right' and moves on.

Yeah. NMM a cool way to spice up your characters and doing simpler versions of it doesn't take that much time.

10 dollars for washes sounds like highway robbery, but that's just GW.

Vallejo, army painter and I assume other non GW-brands sell washes for way less.
Quick google says Vallejo washes are about 3.50 each and around 25 for a set of 8 colours. Way more value.
APs washes should be about the same or bit more.

Oh and you're entering a dropper bottle territory so you can't just paint from the bottle any more.
You need a surface to mix and hold your paints. At the beginning anything non-porous will do.
Cut pieces from figure boxes (picture side). Old CDs etc.

You can buy a regular palette, but you don't really need to.
When you're sure about continuing painting, there's the magical world of wet palettes.

Well the new Army painter Mega Set with 50 paints is out, that should keep you happy for awhile:
https://us.thearmypainter.com/products/warpaints-fanatic-mega-set-combo

You'd think that has everything, but no. There's also complete set with 216 paints out for those who need want 12 shades of aquamarine and teal:
https://us.thearmypainter.com/products/warpaints-fanatic-complete-set

(They're both awesome collections)

The smaller 11 paint starter set and individual paints should be out within 2-3 weeks.

If you're planning to get any, just make sure you get warpaints fanatic (new range), not the regular warpaints (old range).
Paint names are going to be same on both ranges.

I used the old ones for a decade. They were fine. and more importantly available from my local store.

the Warpaint fanatics (and speedpaints) have been perfect so far.
I haven't used most of them yet, though... and probably never will.

Cease to Hope posted:

i do recommend people avoid brands they can't buy locally, because you'll run out of different paints at different times and it's easier to look at a line on a rack than online imo.

Or you could order complete sets. :homebrew:

True.
Although with my painting speed I've only ever run out of whites/blacks and I think the OG 90:s GW orc flesh wash and the regular flesh wash (rip, you were the best)
I've had a lot of dried out GW bottles, so I'm boycotting them.
