God speed. I can't pay attention to this one since I'm in it and I don't want any strategic spoilers since that seems like unfair play, but I assume you will laud my wise choices and lament when some idiot decision inevitably gets me nuked by a neighbour.

Mokotow posted:Oh nice! Dominions is a game I keep buying and never learning enough to keep playing past the first 3 turns. Of course I bought D6. Joining the Ruby Discord would be a pro move since we love new players, and not just because it gives some of us a distant chance of winning a game.

Mokotow posted:What I find challenging in the beginning is setting up the Dominion. I guess it makes sense to have the dominion strength maxed out, but hell if I know if it needs to be super hot or lucky. You actually shouldn't overspend on dominion strength. Firstly, like magic paths, each "candle" is more expensive than the last. Secondly, every five temples you own increases it by 1 anyway, so you have a way to compensate for it. Anything more than 5 is usually a wild overshot during pretender creation. As for what "scales" you need, that depends a lot on your nation and how you're trying to play. As a new player I would recommend keeping Luck neutral or positive, and avoiding "expanders"(big awake monsters intended to stomp indie provinces from turn one or two) since making an expander that works and knowing what provinces they can actually take without getting turned into pincushions takes some experience.
