Nah I don't think it was greed. It was a mistake but he just got played into thinking absolutely everyone was ready to just vote Q and get it done with and he didn't want to waste his idol like an idiot.

My question is, was there actual confusion or people aiming in multiple directions or were folks like Venus and Kenzie and Liz who went Q on the first vote just doing a vote split? We know Kenzie was in on the Hunter vote earlier, yet she voted Q at first, so either she just got spooked onto Q or they arranged a split... maybe a split is more likely because like why shouldn't you keep a chunk of votes on Hunter just to make sure he plays that idol he claims he's gonna play? That said I really don't know for sure, some might have just been spooked and flipped to Q while others independently chose not to. But yeah I'm leaning it was an intentional vote split.

Did Hunter say Tiff was his #1? She might've screwed up then sending him out...

Q will 100% be the goat into the finals. No one will want to work with him long, he'll sell his game like he made big moves but not one jury vote will go to him.

As nervous as he was to actually pull it out of his pocket, he should have just played it. Always just play it if you're this nervous. Especially someone like Hunter who has decent enough odds to beast out on challenges until he finds another idol.

This. BAFFLING choice on his part. It seems like he got honestly fooled, yet he and Q were talking earlier about how obvious of targets they were. I really loved the way the show made clear earlier that Tiff was willing to play hers at the first sign of danger. Great editing work.

His closest and really only ally was just voted out and he's clearly the biggest challenge threat. Playing it wouldn't have been a complete waste either since it'd at least reveal who did what they said they were going to do. Plus he'd have a pretty reasonable shot at finding it again.

Soon as you start telling random people you have an idol you have to assume they're going to either try and flush it or send you out holding it. Especially clear when half the people you're trying to talk to are being dodgy.

I have to say kudos to the producers/luck of the draw to have such a loving chaotic and idiotic group of people that were concentrated in one tribe. I doubt they would stick out as much had they been split up in the beginning, but now, my God.

Honestly, their camera cover at these tribals is really impressive, too. Seems like they're set up well to handle whatever weird direction tribal takes and are able to shoot it all very well.

Also, nice to see a tribal that only moderately descends into chaos and everyone stays seated. I missed those tribals!

Butt first, let's
check the feeds.

Yeah I think Hunter had to play his idol there even more than Tiff. He knows he’s a huge target, he knows he doesn’t trust anyone, he knows poo poo is chaotic, he knows they tricked him once already, and he’s already told people about his idol. Gotta play that thing and make sure you live another day.

Tiff probably should have too but it definitely at least felt like she bluffed everyone off her and as far as she knew Hunter and Q were the targets.

It’s dumb for Kenzie to turn on Tiff but that’s what these players do now. Tevin did it to Soda. A did it to everyone. Everyone’s so obsessed with resume building they’re losing their minds and over think everything. And once the chaos starts there’s like that old study that showed when you throw a bunch of normal people in a room with a narcissist they all start getting influenced. Between the chaos Q created, the number of egomaniacs dreaming of resumes, and the sheer mass of unearned confidence it’s crazy island.

Venus is still sorta my favorite because she’s so certain she’s got this and it feels like things might just be working in her direction.

Venus is and has been great. Nobody is giving her anything and she's far from the biggest goober weirdo around, I hope she sticks around. She might also be the only person left on my fantasy team, I'm scared to look.

I don't think anyone really looks dumb playing a whiffed idol, or rather, they look far far far less dumb than when voted out while possessing one or having it literally in pocket.

This season kind of rules now. I can't remember such a drastic shift in quality from pre-merge to post-merge. Q and Venus are Survivor all-timers, just fantastic characters.

Charlie/Maria look pretty strong but it's hard to imagine they make it until the end without getting targeted. The rest of the tribe is such a disorganized mess though, maybe they'll sneak through if everybody else keeps turning on each other.

Hard to figure out power rankings beyond them. I would've said Kenzie and Tiff as #3 and #4 in some order but Kenzie's being sloppy and too many people already want Tiff out.

Good episode. It's hard to argue with getting Hunter out when you can, although I do kind of wonder if this particular jury was going to be super impressed with a challenge beast. I guess we'll never know.

E: Like I think he beats Q AND Venus, but if he's up there with like one of Venus or Q and is against Kenzie, Tiff, Maria or maybe even Charlie, I see that going the other way. And, I think he would have needed a good final tribal to beat Ben or Liz.

So, let's see. Hunter tells literally everybody about his actually-secret idol for no real reason and also that he's going to play it, and then doesn't play it and gets voted out on a split followed by "holy hell, that idiot didn't play the idol he said he had and was going to use?"

Rob Cesternino has spent a couple of weeks hammering on the idea that Hunter is a bad Survivor player, and I'll be damned if we didn't see some truly awful play out of him just now. People like Bhanu aren't really cut out for Survivor, but Hunter was kind of worse; he's an incredible superfan but he's been playing with zero real awareness for a while now.

This might be is probably mean of me, but I'm glad he's not putting himself in the position of making important medical decisions that could actually affect people's lives. I mean, this guy just got outplayed by Q.

Edit: Q, who voted for Ben. What the hell even was that? All he had to do was vote Hunter to avoid the revote! This cast is historically bad.

Q probably voted Ben since he was left out of the clear behind the scenes split vote and Hunter telling him to vote Ben was the only thing he heard.

As for Hunter, I think the Survivor community just wanted him to be good due to giving up a lucrative career track so he can teach kids using Survivor puzzles.

She's over the hump and nobody gives a poo poo about voting her out anymore so they might as well get on her good side in case she does end up with a jury vote to cast, or else so that she's more likely to work with (any given person) on future votes.

The fact that Venus was in on the Hunter vote means she's actually managed to burrow her way back into the game. I'm not sure how much was her work, and how much was Q/Tevin/Hunter suiciding themselves, but good for her. Lol on Hunter for poo poo-talking her all merge and then coming to her and Liz to be like 'hey please help me stay in the game'.

I agree that Kenzie moving on Tiff was massive overplay. When that was the plan, people were already lining up to take her out next. I feel like the person she ACTUALLY needs out of the game is Charlie (not that that was an option tonight), and she needs someone else to take the blame for it. tbh if I were Hunter in that situation I probably wouldn't have played my idol either -- I just assumed that if you're at the point of panic-whispering votes during Tribal you're probably past the point of subterfuge.

Didn't Venus vote for Q or did I misread that? I wondered if there might've been some sort of vote split at work, because that's essentially how it panned out, but they didn't seem to have the time to plan something of that precision.

I agree though that there might actually be daylight for Venus in the game if she plays her cards right the rest of the way. Maybe she's too dislikable and has already done enough damage, but there's plenty of time for a redemption story, and if nobody's taking her seriously as a threat there's real opportunity for her.

Kenzie overstepped but I think she and Tiff might still be good. She has the social prowess to talk her way out of throwing out Tiff's name. "I had to distance us from each other to keep us from being targets" or something. It's really wild that those two and Charlie/Maria are the only things even close to alliances at this point. I do think the cast mostly sucks at Survivor but it will be genuinely fun to watch things play out from here.
