Ran across this today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vumrar1k928 this album is so much better with a bass guitar on it, will never understand why they did Jason like that. Also this dude jams.

You see the video for One and you're like "wait, there's a guy with a bass right there! why can't I hear him?"

I've heard that lars' drum tracks on justice are cut together from hundreds of takes back when you had to do that poo poo by splicing 2 inch tape together with a razor. Yeah Newsted was fine, the guy in the OP is playing the actual bass parts it's just not zeroed out in the mix and he uses his fingers instead of a pick. Trujilo owns but I like him better with ST than with Metallica, Claypool would have been way too weird to be in Metallica, he may have strangled Lars though so there's that.

Talking about Robert Trujilo got me wanting to listen to You Can't Bring Me Down so I went to search it on youtube and they hit me with this lol

justice has to be in the top 5 worst mixes for a major label album if it isn't the all time worst. The way it was recorded didn't help because it's very sterile but the mix, so bad.

I'm in the everything after justice is awful camp, absolutely agree Rob Trujillo is wasted on them. They do make a shitload more money than Suicidal and Infectious Grooves though so I can't blame him, get your bag.

Every band I've ever been in or known has always wanted to experiment and not make the same songs over and over, sometimes it works out and you get bands like Mastodon and other times it doesn't work. Not everyone can be ACDC and be satisfied making the same album 50 times.

thunderspanks posted:There's a big difference writing songs (or making any art, really) when you're a starving 20 year old with a chip on their shoulder and poo poo to prove, vs a middle aged parent (or grandparent) who's been in the game multiple decades and is long out of touch with ordinary people. Some artists can manage that, some can't. Not to mention the tens or hundreds of millions of dollars.

Was it Lars's idea to bring in Bob Rock? it had to be.

Imagine if justice had been recorded like a metal album and not like a bunch of session musicians doing backing music for a pop singer. The songs are great but it's so sterile you could use it to clean surgical instruments. Going to be mad about this until I am 6 feet under.

I think they wanted to go in a new direction which is cool and understandable, it's just I personally hate the direction they went in.
