Boston had a good regular season, they should celebrate that. There’s no shame in losing to Heat Culture again and again and again…

I can’t believe Miami keeps doing this. Spoelstra is a wizard or something.

Yeah Beal was better than Chris Paul this year. Although maybe they could have used Paul more.

65 games total, less than half of which are started, is a tighter filter than I would have assumed. Plenty of teams have one or zero guys that qualify. Other teams have a whole second unit that does, though.

They did. It was very normal for all nba players to play all 82 games or very close to, all the way up until the late 2010s really.

There are so few outliers of people who win awards missing that many games I don’t understand the backlash really.

Games played is an important stat.

Only 5 times in league history has a player won MVP playing less than 65 games. Only once has this happened in a season with 82 games.

1956-57 Bob Cousy. In this era, there were only 8 teams and 72 games. Cousy played 64.

2019-20 Giannis Antetokounmpo. Pandemic season, teams played less games. Giannis played 63.

2011-12 LeBron James. Lockout season. Teams played 66 games. LeBron played 62.

1977-78 Bill Walton. A normal 82 game season with 22 teams. Walton won the Finals MVP the year before. He played 58 games before going down with injury.

1998-99 Karl Malone. Lockout season. Teams played 50 games. Malone played 49.

pentyne

The narrative of players being 'forced' to play while injured and making it worse picked up for a bit mid season and then fell off.

There's so much hearsay about the whole resting players, load management etc. the league needed to do something. Requiring 80% of games played to be eligible for end of season awards is good enough for now. Missing 10+ games before midseason break is kind of a problem in general for team performance and fan enjoyment.

I see the logic behind the games played even though I agree with the people who are against it in spirit. I think though that it makes a lot less sense for awards like 6 man that are supposed to be for reserves.
