It really looks like Fallout. Its clear they didn't just take the name and make some vague adaption. No, people behind this clearly did their research.

The worst thing people have said is the Power Armor helmets open up, who gives a poo poo?

He's also shown running from the nuke with a kid, so I'm going to assume he was a famous pre war actor, mostly for cowboy movies, and got ghoulified during the war. Now he gets high as poo poo and shoots stuff.

People complain about Bethesda Fallout but they reality is they tool what was a well-regarded but almost forgotten franchise and turned it into a major one.

People love Fallout because of them. New Vegas only exists because Fallout 3 was a huge hit.

I hate pointless mystery boxes. I don't mind a mystery but it the story needs to work towards answering it and just slamming another mystery on top of it is just frustrating.

Though I think it might suffer from what I call :tviv: shows, where its based around the "HOLY poo poo" moments and anything that isn't one, is dismissed as bad. Like you can't just progress the story, or develop relationships, you need to have a Red Wedding or something like that for people to give a poo poo. Walking Dead was really bad for this. It's more of an audience problem than a shows, but I've found a few shows being built around stuff like that.

Thing is, all Fallout stories have been similar, person has a thing they need to find, and in the search, they meet people, gain allies and when they recover the thing, it just leads to a greater problem. The Water Chip leads to the Master, the GECK to the Enclave, The Plantum Chip leads to Caeser legion or the NCR if your that kind of person, and your son leads to the Institute/BoS/Railroad. I figure the show will have a similar story, because that's a pretty basic story outline.

I am just hoping it doesn’t suck. Being average would be a win considering most video game IP movies/shows.

I've said for a while that we've gotten to the point where people who played video games as kids/teens/young adults are old enough to actually have their projects made, so we're going to see video game adaptions that are good. They'll be true to the source material, but not beholden to it. The main thing that gives me hope is the fact that the show is clearly not adapting any of the games stories. There will almost certainly be aspects of them in there, but more in locations and items. Not like we'd see Harold walking around, at least i hope not. But this happens in LA so maybe the Boneyard will be there?

I always felt Fallout had the best chance of being made into a decent movie or show, because the setting is really well fleshed out and you can do a lot with it, without needing to retell the story of the lone wanderer or the chosen one or whomever. Not to mention it is a full on sandbox of a setting, you can do almost any story you want in it, because the games have no problem doing mysteries, horror, action and comedy. Hell you even get aliens and ghosts/monsters because supernatural stuff is part of the series from the start.

TLOU is so far the most accurate game translation I have seen. They changed a few things but they stuck pretty close to the first game's story. I do wonder how they are going to tackle the much more complicated second game.

Yea, TLOU is great because the story was already very cinematic. I really should finish watching the show.

Yea, Coop has a 10 in luck.

It was hard for me to find time over the last few days to watch it, but I'm glad I did. Its not 100% perfect, there's a lot of TV logic to keep the plot moving, like I guess fast travel does exist? But they did what they needed to, they made a story that was set in Fallout but didn't feel they needed to straight up retell the story of one of the games.

Going to assume the NCR only fell apart due to Shady Sands getting blown up real good. Loosing at Hoover wouldn't cause it to collapse, just retreat.

But I cannot get over the production design. Almost everything is just straight from Fallout 4, which makes sense because its the most recent game. Like at the start when the guy at the part is taking pictures, its the exact camera you see laying around. The people behind this really spent a lot of time studying the games and making sure stuff looked at accurate as possible.

Its funny how almost every Fallout adaption has a different take on the Brotherhood. In Fallout they're insular but not overly hostile. In Fallout 2 they have become more of a protector with bases throughout the wasteland. 3 we have direct protectors who have decided to actively help the people in the capital wasteland, though this puts some of their members out and they become the outcasts. Then in New Vegas they are a scared group hiding in a bunker because they lost the NCR/BOS war though they can be convinced to help due to the legion being way more dangerous than the NCR was. Then in 4 they are huge jerks because their lead by a guy who straight up killed the anointed leader of the the DC Chapter so he could go on a crusade against all unnatural beings in the wasteland, hostile or not. 76 they're just an Army unit that adopts Maxson's ideas in WV but they all end up dying so who cares?

These guys are definitely more the FO1 Brotherhood mixed with the FO4. They're super insular and don't really give a poo poo about the people in the wasteland, they are dogmatically dedicated to their original mission and just don't give a poo poo about anyone but themselves.

I think it was more Vault Tec made sure the world situation would result in the bombs dropping, not that they specifically did it. Though the US did fire theirs off in response to something, that was assumed to be the Chinese, but there's a lot of weird stuff.

It does fit in with the tech that we see that was about the come onto the market. Like one of the tragedies of Fallout is that they actually did have the tech to solve all their problems but they were so deep up the rear end of capitalism, the idea of actually putting them out so people could benefit from them as unthinkable. Like a great example are the literally replicators that were at the Sierra Madre. Those could of been put on the market for everyone to buy, but they realized they could make more money by sticking it a part of the attractions of this super exclusive Casino.

There is a shot in the meeting where Barb looks up and sees someone in the shadows watching, and then she does her whole "to win capitalism we'll kill everyone" speech, and thats the one that was behind whats going on in the 31-33 system. Though it might be true that 32 and 33 are intended to operate as intended, keep people safe but form a society that was lead to by the Vault Tec execs and molded to how they wanted people to be like. There isn't anything more sinister than that, but it being Vault Tec, its already sinister.

One thing the games always made clear is that outside of a handful of people, the war took everyone by surprised, and how destructive it was. The Enclave knew something was going to happen, and soon, but not exactly when. So they set up their bases and were ready to go as soon as the balloon went up. Why the President ended up on the oil rig, the pentagon at Raven Rock, the Secretaries not with the president were at the golf course in Fo76 and so on. Thing is, they assumed they'd all be in communication with each other, coordinate their reclamation of the US and fully defeat the Reds. But oops, the war was so destructive that the communications were nearly impossible, so each devolved into what they are when encountered in game. Even the pre war companies that weren't directly part of the Enclave had some kind of post war thinking, but again, none of it worked out because the war and the aftermath were so much more than what they were expecting.

Even if Vault Tech did do something to hasten it, I don't think they explicitly dropped any bombs, there would be no need. You just need to get the US or China to act first, then profit. One thing is LA was one of the most nuked areas of the US, more than DC or NYC. Probably due to it being the biggest metroplex in the country, and it being the closest major city to china.

Its always a problem with games that have different endings that are wildly different. If you want to continue the story, you need to either A) create completely new characters that do stuff divorced from the original, maybe alluding to it but not directly interacting with it. Or B) You just say gently caress you to everyone who's headcannon was the ending they loved, and say Ending 1 is the true ending and that's where they go from.

There's a reason that New Vegas ends right after whatever ending you chose, because they all change the landscape of New Vegas and its surrounding area in a huge way. It would be extremely difficult to account for everything for a post game, so they don't have one.

Sounds like the Fallout writers decided that in the show one of the endings happened.

I think there are a number of very loud nerds out there that when a franchise has one entry that's head and shoulders above the others, that's not only the best entry, but all other entries are poo poo from a butt.

Andor is the only good star wars; deep space 9 is the only good stae trek; winter soldier is the only good marvel movie; Mass Effect 2 is the only good mass effect game; and so on. Everything must be the best or its garbage and not worth it.

The Legion was doomed because it was completely focused on Caeser. Lanius was just a guy with a big sword that only knew violence and didn't have the intelligence or charisma of Caeser.

Anyways, I had a thought, maybe the reason this is set on the west coast and deals with stuff there is because Bethesda has no plans to ever revisit that part of the settings, at least not for a long time. This gives them a freer hand that if they set it on the west coast in case Bethesda decides to do Fallout 5 in New York City or Atlanta or something.

Also with the BoS, I wonder if the reason its all weird and catholic is that the clerics gained power over the scribes and knights, and that made them more dogmatic and inflexible, and cruel.

Fallout world culturally stalled in the 50s/early 60s. Technology kept going but for some reason the 50s and later 60s cultural revolution (the hippies and rock and roll kind, not the Red Guard killing all the vanguard) just never happened. The growth of teen culture in the 50s stalled, and everyone is just crew cuts and pleats. Everythings A Date With Your Family, its always the Swell Years.

Yea, if they decide to do Power Armor in a 40k series, they have a starting place. Though 40k power armor is meant to be much more fluid and natural in motions because marines are literally created to be inside the armor.

At the end [spoiler] You can hear Hank getting into the armor in the background[spoiler]

Also about repopulating Vault 32, the guy who lost the election that wants to nope out of it, he's clearly afraid of SOMETHING in the vault. Maybe he's just worried that everyone will go crazy and kill each other again, or because he was on the 33 council, he knows what they were doing in there. Its probably the former, as the experiment is the same for the 3 vaults.

My mom was wondering how Siggi knew all about Lucy and her vault. He's with the enclave and they are shadowy and evil, but why would they have knowlage that specific?

I figured because he was on the council he was privy to some information the others were, but yea it was just him not wanting change. Though didn't the tall guy that looks like my dad not want the raiders integrated? Like he was ride or die for 31, but he got transferred to 32 and was happy about it.

Also now I think about it, Steph going to Chet, was that just due to him being the lone tall handsome man in the vault, or a calculated move by the 31ers to distract him from Norm and his investigation. When that didn't work, they split them up permanently.

I wonder if showing the brotherhood guys with assault rifles and not their normal miniguns, gattling lasers and other heavy weapons was a choice to show that maybe they don't have the resources they used to? They have the power armor suits yes, but they're limited on what they can gear them up with. Like the whole point of power armor was to basically make each individual soldier a tank, and part of that was them being able to use weapons not normally usable my infantry.

So the shadowy figure who Barb looks at during the board meeting before proposing the Vault experiment system and nuking the world first got me wondering. I'm guessing that shadowy figure is likely a proto-Enclave representative from the US government. But it would be funny if it was actually a communist spy working for China who convinced Vault Tec to nuke the USA first so they wouldn't have to. It probably won't be that but it would be amusing if it wasn't just Cooper being smeared as a commie but Barb as well.

I saw a few people speculating it could be Braun, that he was in charge of making the vaults experiments so that makes sense.

Also I didn't realize the Big MT guy was Sinclair, the guy who also created the Sierra Madre. Though I kinda hope they get James Urbinak to come in and be Dr Zero in live action in some flashback. It would be the closest we'll get to a live action Dr Venture.

Don't assume game mechanics are meant to represent the "actual setting". Until 4, fusion cores were pretty much unlimited energy, but they changed that but nothings saying that this is actually how they function. LIke how Vats is available before you get the pipboy. Its not because you're a synth in 4, its because thats were they put the VATs part of the tutorial.
