Read the newspaper as a teenager, realized that this America place kept blowing up other countries and that it must be destroyed. Read some neoliberal reformer posing as a libertarians book at 17, became a libertarian for a couple months until I figured out what it is. Just kind of did whatever, not really thinking about politics because any actions I took seemed ineffectual. Voted NZ greens twice I think then for NZ's best politician in my lifetime, Hone Harawira twice. Stopped voting now he's not running because I won't vote for war dogs. Still see destroying America as the only way most of the world can develop properly, if political Islam and maga chuds are the best available options for doing that I say they are good ideologies. As I see it communism is one model with some successes but there are others, idk much about it but seems like Gaddafi did ok for instance. It's pretty hard for a small country to go communist without being crushed at the present. Currently on the fence as to whether my energies are best spent supporting dta or developing structures here for when the current system is in crisis, and for after. Probably just going to join the farmers union to try and get them to pressure the government into peace with China, our biggest trading partner.

vociferous working class chud dad told me everything is about money and the govt only existed so rich ppl could exploit us all. he was racist and sexist and liked killing and hurting animals so i hated him and became standard patriotic american dem lib child in response. everyone was super into the iraq war but it seemed suspect to me. on the milhist bullshit atp, reading a lot, trying to understand arguments in favor of just wars. come out of that thinking there arent any. my ex-hippie mother who has always been so careful not to tell me what to think is overjoyed that i somehow figured it out on my own. study advertising in college. sure seems like there are a lot of ways to lie to people so you can gently caress them! maybe i should turn off cnn and watch al jazeera and read south american newspapers instead just for a more complete viewpoi--holy loving poo poo the west blows got deathly ill and hit with 100k+ medical bills at 22, was rudely shown that the poor and ill are also to be discarded along with the foreign. fat gay and disabled, fully radicalized! i'm even crazier than bra-burning vietnam-protesting mom who is now afraid i too will be teargassed and jailed. now i'm just pissed and think violence and wealth redistribution are the answers but after a long horrible childhood have finally got a couple reasons to live and don't really want to end up further disabled by cops. so i throw money at people/orgs and carefully try to radicalize my young coworkers (who often don't even need it, they just need to read books so they have names for their ideas) joke answer: played final fantasy tactics

Car hit my dog when I was 10. Hated em ever since. Went to engineering school and realized too late that it was basically car school. Learned to hate myself. Read a bunch of car related history about the historical and material forces that caused cars to come to be. Learned to hate society. Read some theory and a bunch of climate research. Learned to hate knowing things.

Grew up in a conservative area, had exactly one liberal friend, noticed that while he was knowledgeable and reasonable, his side was almost always losing, but never changed tactics. Eventually learned what the word "jabroni" means and went ".................Huh." My father was a union man and while I don't think he ever used the specific term class struggle, he professed for as long as I can remember that we're certainly in one.

I was a d&d style liberal and Big America Believer, then my experience in Iraq taught me that sometimes, shockingly, America is wrong. that was a crack in the edifice. then I went to business school and saw how much of what we were being taught relied on the system I as a good liberal had previously believed to be perfect was in fact inefficient (these are market opportunities, so they were really emphasized). then, going a little deeper on economic theory taught me that the actual end goal of a perfectly efficient economic system is a hellish existence for all where everyone is perfectly balanced between choosing to work or deciding to starve to death. that was another crack in the edifice. Then what really shattered the remainder was learning that all those nice little charts about how economic prosperity is up up up over time rely on China to make those numbers go up on average, which is the country that by all our theory and ideology should by all rights be collapsed and wrecked, not doubling the quality of life for its one billion people every twenty years. so my entire liberal framework is shattered and does not make sense. and I don’t have any solutions. But in domestic politics, there’s at least stuff I can focus on. It’s all very complicated and I must not have the whole picture, but I at least know that if I help the democrats, over time things get better. Then I learn that to be a democrat actually means to believe health care, food and shelter are not human rights and you’re a piece of poo poo with no place in the party if you disagree. So at that point nothing makes sense and I have no answers on how to make the world any better. I still have no idea how to make the world any better at any scale but when it comes to trying to make sense of things, it does seem that Marxism has more explanatory power than liberal economics. also I hate the democrats and think America is bad for the world.

I very luckily stumbled upon Jello Biafra's spoken word/lectures at a young age, and spent most of my life as a left-of-center cynic with no coherent ideology beyond "not conservative." I also never really trusted communists because the ones I knew through local punk scenes were dipshit alcoholics, but reading more about socialism (and the advent of socialist podcasting) has given me a better political vocabulary. It's also been a relief to find that modern socialists don't go all in on wokescolding - I've always connected that behavior with bug-eyed evangelical freaks and really hated when progressives started doing it in earnest.

Got radicalized into a lib as a kid by finding out how bullshit the Iraq War was, then was critical of Obama but thought it was okay because he was the start of the drift to the left anyway until the Democratic Party went all in, including him, on supporting the person who ran to his right in 2008. And I was still groaningly accepting voting for Hillary until the second debate with Trump where she went on an Axis of Evil speech about who was really responsible for the unrest of Syria (magically not any of the actually sponsors of ISIS, wild), so I voted third party. Have only gotten more left since as I've watched the Dems become more and more just a second Republican Party.
