Yeah obviously no one should choose to grind like that, my point was just that, unlike Classic Emblem, theres no limits in Modern Emblem, so the intended way to play is basically do side stuff a bit to keep everyone relevant. Especially for the 2 that feature child units, since you'd only really get them in post game playing normally. And for the rest of it, I just kinda assumed trying to play Modern Emblem like Classic Emblem was insane in a way no one would do, but it seems to be pretty common around here.

I mean i think awakening (and fates except Revelations, though I don't fates revelation is THAT impossible to do that way) it's not THAT hard to get all the child characters without using skrmishes on the "reasonably balanced" difficultly levels (especially since the paralogues give you more opporunties to raise support levels and stuff). Awakening Kids having stats based on their parents and promotion level ready creates something of a "catch up mechanic" and fates has the kids catch up mechanics built.

On an asside, I will say I on some level miss old school "characters you have to work for" in FE, very few characters are truly easy to miss since like awakening, my best guess for this is more along the lines of "We paid for voice actors, more distinict face models and like a bunch of base mechanics and dialogue just for them, we're not gonna deny players those characters jsut because they didn't stand on a specific tile with Lethe or Mordecai", I wouldn't be suprised if a theorticasl FE4 remake just outright removes the substitues since having functionally two different versions of most gen 2 characters that require different voice acting and models (and at least one case a female version of a class that does not appear with any other playable character or major NPC (Forest)) when the majority of players will only see one and will infact will try to avoid see the others. (I'm guessing they will just make the Gen 1 women retreat ala Awakening and say they marry generic guys who don't matter (Heck Nanna and Delmudd's father could be Eve if Lachesis is unpaired as a reference to the most obscure fact about janne and Tristan) and like if they didn't properly join (for Ayra or Erinys) just don't it explain or just slap a one line of dialogue for that scenerio, demands of accounting outweight the demands of the plot)

I get it's probably a realish term but for some reason that's probably tied into deepseeded sexism the term "Queendom" isn't something I can take super seriously

Also like my funny thing about my and Celine and her ability to use swords is that when I used it, I would use it with Levin swords even though she know uses Tomes (breaking axe users and arts protection mostly), I feel like she falls afoul of game developers over valuing how useful it is for a character to be a mixed attacker (hint it's never as big as you think, because one will be better then the other like 90+% of the time, I almost never used a sword with Robin in awakening for that exact reason).

I have an irrational like of Clanne despite being objectively bad, like I usually make him Axe Mage Knight or something.

i immediately noticed that Firene is described as a kingdom despite its current monarch being a queen, so the fact that Solm isn't just another Kingdom is a deliberate choice. I forget if the game ever elaborates on that, though.

Apologies for not responding eary.

Like I'm curious I had to guess via context "kingdom" is a term that means "king is the highest power in the land", and that I am aware the term for an state ruled by a prince is a "principality" i would assume via context that a queendom would consider a queen the highest power in the land, I would assume in this context: some level of Female preferred primogeniture, only females can inherent, or possibly only female bloodline inheritance. This does raise questions of "If a men can inherent can they use the title king or have to use like 'prince' or something" and "is the queen's husband refereed as King Consort or like Prince Consort or something" but I assume they are not addressed specifically since our language involving noble titles is so entrenched in gender assumptions and gender hierarchy, that these come up with Queen Regnant's and translations issues where we basically describe the one female emperor of china of what we view as the "male" title of "emperor" since the chinesse word for "empress" translates to "wife of emperor" not "female emperor" (and in fact her historical title is literally "the lady emperor".

I assume from a lore standpoint, they wanted an upcoming female character to be the heir apparent over her brother and wanted to signal that since it's not immediately obvious, but then again Ylisse in Awakening seems to definitely have absolute primogeniture (no gender preference since emmeryn was queen over her younger brother).

And further muddying the waters is that in some real life instances, a reigning female monarch took the title of 'king' to emphasize that she's the one in charge, the best known example probably being King Jadwiga of Poland.

I think most of the times this occurs their document of rule says that the ruler is a king, but does not specify that the king has to be male. (Also sometimes is a weird issue of translation where the word we regularly translate as "Queen" or "Empress" in that language basically only exclusively means "Wife of King" or "Wife of Emperor" where as the english context allows both the context of "female ruler" and "wife of ruler".)

Mid-Game three houses spoiler Fire Emblem Three Houses kind of does this with Edelgard being refereed to as emperor, but that might be partially translation with Japanesse titles possibly having that same "the word that typically translates to empress means "Wife of Emperor" in japanesse" and partially because the "Flame Emperor" is a mysterious figure that is gender ambigous leaning towards male presenting initially and they didn't want to completely tip their had that it is edelgard and changing terminology midway through the game would feel weird.

Not quite sure I needed to spoil tag something heroes outright spoils but just incase.

Isn't warrior the best class in the game due to longbow and backup.

Side note I find it funny that melee and archers could have their specialties swapped and both would be better for it. Like Convert is better for melee characters and Back up is better for long ranged characters.

It felt like the promotions where you no new weapon types (Berserker, Swordmaster, Sniper, Paladin, General, and Halberdier would theoretically fall under here if it wasn't for the fact you know no base class Lance Fighters) are more "punishment classes/back up worse options for not using the weapon proficiency emblem stuff" then like stuff that is actually useful. Berserker, Swordmasters, Halberdier and Snipers not having a crit bonus or anything unique to make up for only having one weapon type and infanty shows that as well as generals being 1 move behind infantry when tier 1 armors were not. You brought Halberdiers back in the series for the first time in 7 games and you can't access them without reclass is kind of dumb and they aren't that good if you go out of your way of them is an insult.
