Debating 5 of the music questions being on videogame music - they'd have to name the franchise and the console/platform it was released on. nerdy but then a good amount of the people who move to luxembourg and come to the quiz are in the millennial nerd demographic. I wouldn't make it hard, obvious poo poo like Zelda, Tetris, Halo, Minecraft etc. And the other 5 music questions will be Disney songs.

Wow, never thought I'd see Supergloss talked about in the UK Chat thread. Her set at HOR is one of the most popular i've seen, really tight tracklist and she actually looks like she's having a lot of fun here.

As with most HOR DJs, the fake mixing doesn't do anything for me. Why try to pretend you're mixing live when it's obvious you're performing to a pre-mixed track?

That ending though, fantastic.

I believe the chat thread would appreciate this, given recent bread discussions

Barm vs cob: Why Britain has so many names for a bread roll
https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20240325-barm-vs-cob-why-britain-has-so-many-names-for-a-bread-roll

https://www.ourdialects.uk/maps/bread/

quote:

Some of the words for a small round loaf of bread are Germanic in origin – "batch," which is also used more generally to describe a group of small objects, may come from "bachen," or "bake", says Robinson. "Roll" comes from French and would have arrived with Norman invaders later. MacKenzie, pulling up the Oxford English Dictionary entries for these words, notes that a lively variety of processes went into creating them.

"You can see that a number of common pathways of new word formation are in evidence: borrowing (roll was borrowed from French), synecdoche (barm meaning yeast gets transferred to bread, the thing containing the yeast), semantic narrowing (cob meaning something round comes to refer specifically to a round bread), and compounding (putting together two existing words of the language to form a new one, e.g. teacake)," she wrote in an email. These all cropped up at quite different times over the course of the last thousand-odd years.

Once words were in common usage, the fact that people largely stayed where they were from played a major role in cementing these regional differences, says Mackenzie. "Separation plus time is what gives you dialect differences," she said.

I wonder what they call teacakes in the places where they call bread rolls teacakes

Edit:

quote:

Although most people refer to a teacake as a cake containing fruit, in East Lancashire, certain areas of Yorkshire and Cumbria the name currant teacake is used to distinguish fruited 'cakes' from plain bread rolls.
