Just came here to talk about this. Very excited.

Descent 3 source code has been released:

Guess it's finally time to buy the classic bundle on Steam! I had the Mac port back in the day, but it unfortunately ended up feeling like a second class citizen, because the expansion content was never ported. Should be fun to pick this back up, it was one of the first multiplayer games I ever played over dialup and was still fun even through the jank, although I was bummed that the PC players got the cool Black Pyro ship. Black hole missiles were hilarious.

My favourite little monsters
The time limit in SC2 always stresses me out. I wanted to explore and find everything, and knowing that if I took too long, poo poo would get annihilated stressed me out.

I know you can delay it, and I know that it was probably a really long time, but still. Having that enormous galaxy to explore but not enough time to explore it all really got me on edge.

But if they can match the world building that game had, all the interlocking stories of the various species and the depth to all of them, then this one will be a banger.

Hades 1 genuinely would have been a worse game if it didn't have EA for polish.

Star Control 2/UQM is honestly the third game in my greatest games of all time list (after Outer Wilds and Disco Elysium). I actually got into the series via Star Control 3 (made by a different team) and although I still think its a pretty good game and loved the puppets and some of the new races, but it isnt at SC2's level. I am so excited for a real, proper sequel by the original team and can't believe it might actually happen, so many decades later.

No joke: this video, like twenty+ years ago was what made me realize this was an actual song and that "it's getting hot in here / take off your clothes" wasn't just a goon catchphrase.

Oh this is so awesome. Loved this game, but it felt the Descent-days of PC gaming were waning when it came out. And yeah, it had a great multiplayer scene and community. I've played through 1 & 2 in modern times via source code projects. Hope this gets similar treatment. It's been a bit janky to get running on modern PCs though still looked pretty nice.

Carly shook her glass, willing the ice to melt. "You still haven't told me what the mission is."

She leaned forward. "We are going to assassinate the bad men of Hollywood."

2002-2003 was definitely the cultural nadir of rock music. So many horrible nu-metal and post-grunge bands. The death of rock as a leading genre in pop music was well-deserved.

The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy aired this weekend, which reminded me that Pirates of the Caribbean Online has been back for several years as a fan game https://tlopo.com/. As with most games that old, the textures are much blurrier than I remember. If I ever tried it again, I'd probably play it in windowed mode so that it takes up a quarter of my screen

Just wanted to add to the praise. It loving owns. Makes for a good downer-game double feature along with Kentucky Route Zero. (I would make it a triple feature with Disco Elysium, except DE is on the longer side while you can complete UG and KRZ together on a long weekend).
