Lean Edge doesn't just heal Alain on kill, it heals on hit too, and those two conditions are separate and thus can activate together on a killing blow. Lex doesn't have a full proper cover yet. Right now he has Arrow Guard, which covers an ally being hit by a ranged physical attack (arrows, obviously, though physical attacks from flying enemies also count). This nullifies the attack, while covers just divert the damage to the covering unit.
