I agree for the rest but Cope vs Penta was really really special.

I agree! They didn't have a lot of natural chemistry but both guys gutted out a good match through pure force of will.

The look of pure glee on Okada's face as he was prepping to whap PAC with the chair the first time was amazing :allears:

A classic pro wrestling heel trait is that they love cheating and cannot cheat enough. Okada's immediate embrace of this is a big reason why I love the guy right now.

Also Shibata complimenting Renee's necklace was really cute in an unexpected way.

One of the guys I watch wrestling with irrationally dislikes Claudio ("he just spams European uppercuts because he can't wrestle") so when this match happens and rules I am going to hoot and holler right in his face.

For a guy who's been a professional writer as long as Meltz has, he really sucks at it unless he's writing an obituary.

Never cared one bit about Schiavone in WCW, but Schiavone in AEW is a perfect veteran. Loves the industry, wants the young guys to do well, here to make things go better.

All that plus he marks out on commentary with an enthusiasm not seen since David Crockett.

If TNA didn’t gain anything from their AEW partnership (and all things considered, they didn’t outside of one rating pop and one buyrate boost, I think?), what in the WORLD makes them think they’d get anything from WWE, a company known for insidiously destroying any territory they partner with?

No no no you see that was under Vince the bad boss and now HHH the good boss is in charge.

I cherrypick episodes of Talk is Jericho, and I watch bits of Wrestling Observer on YT, but for the most part I can't stand wrestling related content. Most of them might as well be called 'The Bad Takes podcast'.

This more than anything else is what turned me off of OSW. It was fun when they ripped on the worst parts of 90s WCW and WWE but holy poo poo their taste in modern stuff is terrible. Deadlock is way more fun since those guys know they're numbskulls at the end of the day.

I stopped watching OSW before they reviewed AEW stuff, how bad was that?

They've had some dumb takes on AEW, but it's more that they think the Platonic ideal of wrestling is ponderous, boring HHH matches and can't accept that there are different approaches to selling and ring psychology out there in the world.

Wrestle Me is a fun one! They're at their best covering old British wrestling and trying to prove that Les Kellett was the Yorkshire Ripper.

Wrestlecrap's AEW entries

The complaints about the first Casino Battle Royal and the arcade match are so weird to me. Wrestling is inherently weird and stupid and has a history of showcasing "freakshow" elements to draw interest; people used to wrestle bears, for chrissakes. Having one battle royal with some goofy indy gimmicks and a guy with no legs isn't a big deal, and it's totally something that every old school promoter (aside from maybe Bill Watts) would have done. Same with the Texas Deathmatch thing; it's no worse than Cornette booking a loving mummy in Smoky Mountain because his money guy demanded it. I think some fans forget that wrestling is supposed to be fun, and not just at someone else's expense.

It's weird to me that wrestling companies haven't figured out that the most popular shirts don't have giant logos or some wrestler's face on it. It's subtle poo poo that doesn't make it seem like a wrestling shirt.

My favorite wrestling shirt is a New Japan shirt that's just the company's logo, but it's a cool/dignified design which is where most wrestling shirts poo poo the bed.

I'm doing a listicle on AEW's best storylines. I'm up for suggestions. Right now I have (in no order):

Hangman vs. Elite
Hangman vs. Swerve Strickland
CM Punk vs. MJF
Bryan Danielson vs. MJF
Brandon Cutler vs. Peter Avalon
Adam Copeland vs. Christian Cage
Orange Cassidy vs. Jon Moxley
Eddie Kingston vs. Bryan Danielson
MJF vs. Cody Rhodes
Brodie Lee vs. Cody Rhodes

I think OC vs Pac has more legs under it than OC vs Mox.

If OC vs. Mox didn't have the issue of Mox getting concussed and losing to Fenix - and featured OC being able to build himself up to challenging Mox again for the title, that feud would have been so much better to me lol. The follow up with OC kinda hurts it for me also. Love the guy but I was absolutely on team "OC should go away for a bit and come back emboldened and better than ever".

I didn't mind the followup but I think OC should be challenging for the world title at this point and staying at that level.
