Jack-in-the-Bach posted:Was there no dress rehearsal? Seeing them shouldn't have been that surprising. Louie Zakarian makes the prosthetics for the show and posts on instagram as louiefx. It's apparent that many of his prosthetics are one-offs, which usually means that they probably wouldn't want to risk damaging them in dress rehearsal given the incredibly short turnaround time they have to work with in order to make everything for every sketch in one week. It's more likely that dress-rehearsals for skits like this aren't actually done 'in-dress' for this reason in tandem with the reason that it's generally funnier when the actors aren't fully aware of what's about to happen either. Che and Colin write jokes for each other and hide the punchlines until airtime, and whoever wrote for Hader as Stefan obviously kept some of those cues secret until he read them live on TV. Also, this thread needs more Phil Hartman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDGTCULn6P0

Hiding the costume was a brilliant move and I *throws up a little* think SNL made a good call there

SNL is not supposed to be good, it is supposed to reflect the US cultural zeitgeist through the lens of comedy and the overall cultural zeitgeist has never been resoundingly good for most people. Case in point: Elon Musk, he wasn't there because he is funny or talented or offered society in general anything of value, he was there because he is a gross problem we all have to deal with presented in a terrible costume being bad at whatever the gently caress he was trying to accomplish by appearing on the show. I was sort of wrong. SNL posted a fairly indepth video showing the table read and first run-through with imperfect but mostly intact prosthetics, and she blew it there, too.

About 5-10 years ago I ended up on the Japanese or Korean Hulu site and I swore on the main page SNL was spotlighted. I was left thinking this was just some contractual Hulu deal, where no matter the region SNL had to get promoted. Outside of English-speaking countries, does the rest of the world actually care about SNL? I imagine the novelty of seeing world-famous music stars and movie stars on the show is worth something, but is there anything else about the show that appeals to a global audience?

SNL's golden age is usually the era where you were a young tween to late teenager or early 20's. Beyond that, "SNL just isn't funny anymore"

You either grew up watching SNL during a golden age of the show, or you were watching MTV's Headbanger's Ball. Or Britcoms over on PBS. Or USA Up All NIght. Or Monstervision over on TNT. It all depended on your level of social acceptance with your peers.

There's a Korean version of SNL with Lorne as executive producer. And I think there might be an Indian version, too? BIG FLUFFY DOG posted:Kyle mooney’s team-ups with beck bennett were always very funny when they were on the show While I'm happy for Beck/Kyle/Nick that they all got plucked from Theatre of Life/Good Neighbor Stuff to be on SNL, I kind of wish it never happened.* Out of that entire group, pre-SNL, I always found Kyle to be the weakest link and Beck the strongest, so imagine my surprise when Kyle blows up and Beck never manages to find himself utilized properly. They were at their strongest when together, agreed, but without Nick on screen it felt sort of like it was missing something crucial to their formula that did them all a disservice. *Because they had to move from LA to NYC and it killed Theatre of Life, which was my loving favourite thing ever at the time.
