Crow Jane posted:Serious question. I recently saw an incredible exhibition of Egyptian papyri, and have been seriously thinking of getting a tattoo, possibly even a large motif, based on them. The mythology is fascinating, and the art is just so incredibly elegant. However, I am of Eastern European heritage and white as snow. Is there any way that it wouldn't be tacky and tasteless/possibly offensive as hell? Most people who care don't spend very much time in public. Just know whatever you're actually getting is and means and nobody real cares.

If they start with oranges, then what next? She's just sticking with fruit for now, and I guess she has some fake skin on the way that she will be using next. I was just really worried she would stick with oranges for a little and then decide "Ok, I'm ready for people!" I'm not sure if she is even apprenticing under someone, or if she just got the machine and started doing it herself.

My sister started out on fruit, then a bunch of her dumbass friends wanted work done so they just got poo poo for free, some of it was terrible some of it was pretty good. She's awesome now though so I guess it worked out in the end. It doesn't always end up badly thank god, some people actually hone their skills.

That "25 tinker bell tattoos" article posted earlier also links to a number of other articles written by the same author. Between how odd the wording is and how poor the suggestions are, I get a real "fake Chinese site with procedurally generated articles that are actually trying to sell you knockoff Viagra and also give you computer viruses" vibe from it all. Here are 25 totally great and not at all horrible ideas for first time tattoos! http://slodive.com/inspiration/first-tattoo-ideas/ There's actually a little bit of bad tattoo bingo going on, what with the Infinity symbol, trampstamp, dream catcher, anchor thing suggestions.

In the tinkerbell list, it described one tattoo as "Very pretty Tinkerbell with red cheeks and stary wings in red and black." It's clearly a confederate flag Also "The given image displays a little angel in black. It can be a better idea for a first tattoo." I'm pretty certain that's what one of the characters from the Scott Pilgrim game looks like when they die.

If they start with oranges, then what next? Wasn't there a guy in some tattoo thread on here (possibly an Ask/Tell about being a tattoo artist) who claimed he paid homeless people to get tattoos so he could practice? That was a trainwreck. As far as I can tell, being a tattoo apprentice mostly involves lots and lots of drawing. My artist had an apprentice who dropped out because he never completed his drawing assignments (the exact phrasing was "never filled up his sketchbooks"). I would guess that getting the feel for drawing with a machine instead of a pen would be the tricky bit.
