Just ate at Sushi Zone last week on Clement who also take bitcoin.

Payment was awkward. They presented the QR code to me from their blockchain.info account on a laptop. I keyed in the amount on my Android app and sent it through. They wanted to wait for a confirmation before dismissing me, so I said I would wait back at my table rather than standing at the counter for 10 mins. POS could definitely be improved.

The "Bitcoin Accepted Here" experiment. (self.Bitcoin)

submitted 3 hours ago by gubatron

So I ordered a bunch of "Bitcoin Accepted Here" with the intention of placing them on every retail store in my town, I'd like to see some news of my neighborhood becoming a Bitcoin merchant meca after hundreds of customers per store keep asking the owners/managers/cashiers "can I pay with Bitcoin"? prompts them to take action and start accepting Bitcoin payments.

I suggest you replicate the experiment, worse thing that can happen is that they unstick the sticker from their door. I'll be placing them next to the "Visa Accepted Here" stickers.

PS: Thanks to the folks at BitStickers.net for sending us way more stickers than we ordered for, they added so many other sticker types we didn't even add to the order. Great for sampling and giving away.

i briefly considered doing this to piss off my local business owners into never wanting to consider it, but then again i'm not a petulant man child

having spent some time way back when scrapping off stickers from a retail store i can assure you nothing pisses you off at 7:30 am than having to clean off someone's impromptu advertising

so the bitcoin response to this is that they should just accept the payment without confirmation?

you don't even need "your own app", just two apps. if i were going to do it i'd have a second transaction with a high fee lined up on my desktop at home, pay at the store and then remote into my desktop from my phone and mash go on the second transaction. idk if you can start transactions from mobile devices but if they're using like a web-based wallet there's probably something you could use.

Why would you try such a roundabout way when you can simply use two different wallet apps, empty your wallet a few minutes before ordering with one and then "pay" with the other.

a few minutes would probably be enough time for the transaction to propagate too far, meaning that nodes would recognize/reject your double spend attempt. ideally what you want to do is send your low fee transaction to a node that the place you are scamming is only a few hops from, and then send your high fee transaction to a node close to miners. i'm not sure there's any good way to sort out who is connected where though. if you could figure out a fast/direct way to the miners, your best bet is probably to publish the low fee transaction via blockchain.info's transaction pushing service, because they connect to a lot of nodes, and then send the other transaction directly or nearly directly to the miners right after. i don't think double spending is as easy as people would think, but it's probably worth trying if you can get a system down that pays off even 10% of the time because, hey, free food.

Lots of people don't get this: when bitcoin hits 10k/100k you won't have to convert to fiat. Simply beautiful! (self.Bitcoin)

submitted 5 hours ago by chipbag123

I admit, I never thought about this myself, until today :P

10k might be a stretch for this, but 100k isn't. Imagine this: 1 BTC = $100,000.00 USD, now, why not cash out and pay your college debt/buy a house? Easy, you won't need to. In order for bitcoin to hit 100k, it has to be accepted for more things and used more and so on. When bitcoin hits 100k (let us dream, pls) you'll be able to use it for everything you can use fiat currencies for. Isn't it amazing?

I admit, there are some not-so-well-thought-out things in here, but the basic idea is still really appealing to me!

in a shocking twist, bootstraps-obsessed libertarians fail to understand that a runup to 10k or 100k would kill any non-fanatic's interest in actually using bitcoin as currency, which would kill any chance of sustaining 10k or 100k prices
