Pornography is illegal in China. I would imagine that all it would take to get banned in China would be to bring back DPPH, but if the goal is to only use D&D then the best 2 topics would have to be Tibet and Taiwan.

Everyone else promptly said . It's a little more complicated than that. It's been the prerogative of the Emperor to appoint Lamas (both Dalai and Panchen) since those positions have existed (with a few exceptions here-and-there, as you'd expect from any historical process). Well, not "appoint" but "pull the name of the successor out of a basket" (and the Chinese government decided whose names went in the bucket). What's a lot more interesting is that the CCP is asserting rights that were reserved for the Emperor. Not, like, territorial rights and poo poo, but spiritual rights as well. Not that the two aren't intertwined enough already in China. The whole "Tibet" thing is blown up anyway. Sure, it is a nasty bit of colonialism, but it is substantially gentler than European colonialism and while it has certainly benefited the Han more than the Tibetans, the Tibetans are doing substantially better under Chinese rule. Nepal serves as a pretty good control for what a free Tibet would have looked like and, again I want to stress that Tibet is far from perfect, it is a shitton better than Nepal, even for the native Tibetans. It is more of a lingering anti-Communist/pro-British Imperialism bit of propaganda that sticks with the Western Left because people don't think about it too hard as opposed to an actual thing.

There's people protesting something or other in front of the Chinese consulate down the street from my apartment. Given that they're speaking Chinese, and also probably going on about either Tibet or some weird cult, I cannot overemphasize how much I don't give a gently caress and just want them to shut up.

Well, not "appoint" but "pull the name of the successor out of a basket" (and the Chinese government decided whose names went in the bucket). Nope. I mean maybe that's how it was written in Chinese histories, but in reality you're talking about the Golden Urn, which was only used for the identification of the 10th, 11th, and 12th Dalai Lamas, and only the 8th and 9th Panchen Lamas. Even then it was used the opposite of the way you described it- Tibetan methods were used to narrow it down to a small list of potential trulku candidates, and then the Golden Urn was used (and again, only in those few cases, too). Shbobdb posted:What's a lot more interesting is that the CCP is asserting rights that were reserved for the Emperor. Not, like, territorial rights and poo poo, but spiritual rights as well. Not that the two aren't intertwined enough already in China. Right on the money here! Yeah it's weird, because the Emperors recognized with spiritual authority by the Tibetans were associated with Manjusri... I'm not sure if Xi Jinping really wants to open that can of worms. Shbobdb posted:The whole "Tibet" thing is blown up anyway. Sure, it is a nasty bit of colonialism, but it is substantially gentler than European colonialism and while it has certainly benefited the Han more than the Tibetans, the Tibetans are doing substantially better under Chinese rule. Cool, Colonial Justification 101. Generally speaking, "they can't rule themselves, they're better off ruled by others without their consent!" is a pretty lovely argument. If things are so great for Tibetans in Tibet, why is it that they go to such great lengths to leave it, and why is it that Tibetans in Ladakh/Mustang/Monyul aren't clamoring to cross the border into Chinese territory? I don't know, just seems like maybe Tibetans know more about Tibet than you. Shbobdb posted:It is more of a lingering anti-Communist/pro-British Imperialism bit of propaganda that sticks with the Western Left because people don't think about it too hard as opposed to an actual thing. This is incredibly demeaning for the Tibetans who generally power the movement- whether they're one of the many who have walked through the loving Himalayas to freedom, or the Tibetans still in Tibet who take enormous risks to express dissent in a place subject to perpetual crackdowns. Or one of the 130 or so who have set themselves on fire in the last 4 years- men, women, young and old, farmers and monks and nuns and nomads. That's something that 'sticks with the Western Left because people don't think about it too hard'? Western supporters keep raising the issue here, sure, but in the end it's Tibetans who have risen up over and over again rejecting Communist Party rule, you colossal douche. Stop trying to strip their agency and putting everything on the 'Western Left'

This isn't a thread to get sa banned in China, but a plan to draw out all the colonial apologists and the racists. Oh and your threats are too milquetoast. Falun gong constantly have banners like 天滅中共! 沒有共產黨,才有新中國! Heavens smite the CCP! With out the cup, then a new China will form (play on one of the party songs). We need to write stuff like let's kill all the officials who moved to America and have them reveal all the party state secrets.
