With the help of being on jury duty for a solid week I blasted through all 20 volumes of Kimi ni Todoke that are currently out-- what an immensely satisfying series. I liked everything about it, can't wait for volume 21 in June.

I've been reading a lot of yuri manga lately. Can anyone recommend some good yuri or yaoi series? I'm looking for both explicitly queer manga like Girl Friends as well as stories that just have same-sex tension in them, like Boku wa Mari no Naka. Basically if it's gay I'll read it.

It depends on the type of thing you're more interested in, but I recommend Collectors and Stretch. The latter isn't I guess technically gay, but it's certainly leaning very heavily toward it. Plus it's good and teaches about stretching! Also Chatting Over Tea at the Amber Tea House and everything by that author. They're all very pleasant and floofy. chumbler fucked around with this message at 05:29 on Mar 12, 2015 |

Anything by Akiko Morishima is pretty good and has a bit more variety than the usual high school girls first romance stuff. Poo Poor Lips and The Flower and The Star are two other good series the latter of which has the bonus of being pretty drat funny too. Re: Yuri Doubling up on some and adding a couple. Sasameki Koto (the third and final volume is out if you pre-ordered, soon if not), Octave, Kisses Sighs and Cherry Blossom Pink (same author as Girl Friends), Aoi Hana turned out to be flawed with its pacing, read it anyway Shimura's art is amazing and so is her characterization. Anything by Takemiya Jin. Honey and Honey. The French manga Blue is the Warmest Color.

The best shonen ai is still Yozora no Sumikko de. Other good yaoi/shonen ai: Blue Sky Complex, Hontou Yajuu, or Junjou (not Junjou Romantica). Junjou still has some problematic non-consensual stuff unfortunately, but overall it's great. Seconding Stretch, and hoping that someday it turns the corner into shoujo-ai.

Stretch has the loudest subtext ever, and I'd argue it's already turned that corner.

I don't care if he traced, Prism was good and it sucks that it got canceled. It's still worth reading imo. Edit: poo poo, even Chihayafuru's author got in trouble for using Sports Illustrated covers as a ref for her basketball manga and that got canceled. Meanwhile, Greg "I literally trace porn" Land still has plenty of work on American comics. a kitten fucked around with this message at 18:49 on Mar 12, 2015 |

I like some of the stuff by Yotsuhara Furiko. Highlights for me are Blank, Lip-Service Woman and the Impregnable Maiden and One Who Depicts Love. Under One Roof by Fujio seems to have gone on hiatus at an agonizing point in the story but what's there so far is really good.

Prism just happened to end at an appropriate enough point that I think it's still worth recommending.

Otsu Hiyori is also really good. Her yuri tends to deal with older girls, ones who are working, in college, or otherwise past high school. It's a refreshing change, and another big plus for me if you ask me is that some of the relationships in her stories, especially her stronger ones, are ones that we get a chance to see after the girls have been together for a while, instead of always just first love kind of stories. One of her best, or at least her most memorable, is one of the ones in Clover. Two girls get together in one of the collection's four stories, and the extra finds them still together after a few years, and eventually deciding to get married.

Historia and Christa from Attack on Titan Asuka and Mari from the Evangelion Rebuild films Elsa and Anna from Frozen e: Earlier in the thread someone said they think she really likes boobs and ya know what? that seems to be the case. Surprised at how mainstream most fanart by shoujo mangaka seems to be, or rather how much of it is for non-shoujo stuff. Don't have to consume what you make I suppose! Then again Takako Shimura did fanart of other yuri manga at least.

I'm not a fan of the pointy chins and wide eyes thing. The Mari/Asuka one is a good example of that, while the Sayaka/Kyoko one doesn't have that and is great. Much better than her usual style IMO.

Hey Shoujo manga thread, I need your help. What's the most trashy, generic shoujo manga you can think of? Something akin to what Nozaki-kun writes. I need an example for a video and Ao Haru Ride, despite my personal feelings against it, isn't that bad (plus i've already made fun of it).
